Almost vommed today on the treadmill. Went to a gym/spa and thought I’d have a go at some hill intervals like I’d tried before I got injured. My gums throbbed and I suppressed the urge to expel the contents of my stomach all over the gym. Fun times.
It’s been 6 months since I got injured, feels a bit mad scrolling through strava looking back.
Highlights of 2019:
Tarsuinn Trail on Arran. Had an ok run with a decent finishing place. This was essentially the straw that broke the camel’s back tho!
5:47 mile pb and sub 20 5k. I’d hoped to build on these with more speed work but injury arrived before I got the chance.
Good performances at Helvellyn and The Dodds and Long Duddon. Both in awful conditions requiring navigation (amusing considering the out and back course of Helvellyn, very understandable at Duddon).
Bonus at Duddon was Joss Naylor sarcastically remarking that I looked like I was enjoying rug myself at the top of Hard Knott.
Kintyre Way Ultra - my first and probably last Ultra. Not my cup of tea, but cool to do an ultra nonetheless!
Yorkshire 3 Peaks - again, not really my bag, but cool to tick off a local classic in a semi respectable manor.
PB at Ilkley Moor Fell Race. Had raced (poorly) at XC nationals the day before and was fighting a cold. Still chuffed really. Hoping to be back racing by this years race on the 1st of March.
Wandsworth Trog. 20 miles in the snow in February. Was radical. Definitely won’t be in the same shape this year!
I hope I can get back to racing without injuring myself again this year. Will probably try and keep the racing to sub 10 mile courses. With a couple classic Lakes 10-15 milers maybe. Hard to resist when summer rolls round.
Happy new year to everyone in the thread. May your 2020 hold smashed pbs and remain injury free.
