Goldtec hubs - purchasing spare allen key bolts

Posted on
  • My freshly bought goldtec front hub has no nuts. Having been told that the nuts that come from Goldtec are shit (and they never answer emails etc anyway, I'm still waiting for a reply about a silver rear), is there anywhere else where I can get these, or a equivalent, from?

Or if anyone wants to sell me their spares, that would be even better.

Of course, I've been UTFS-ing for a while but no luck, and google hasn't been much use either.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Andy

  • clerkenwell screws on clerkenwell road.

  • Thanks - will check them out

  • Whered you get the hubs from? If they came without the bolts then either the shop or Goldtec should be able to provide you with a set. Just keep emailing goldtec, from my experience their customer service was very good.

Have the appropriate bolts, but the heads aren't wide enough really.. Workable with washers, and I bought a few as spares - but not as optimum as the 'proper' bolts..

  • I may have what you're looking for - PM'd

  • Right I'm about to buy stuff from BETD's website and also need rear allen bolts for my Goldtecs. Which size do I need?

    http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/result.asp?CategoryID=376&Name=Fasteners

    They have M5, M6 & M8.

  • m6

  • mumbles is correct

  • Thanks. They also ask which length: http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/items.asp?CategoryID=150&Name=M6+Screws

I suppose I will have to take the good one out and measure tonight. Or does anybody know at the top of their head?

  • over a inch 25/30mm will be ok

  • M8

Fixed. Goldtec rears are M8. They will also be cheaper from a fastener shop.

  • Sorry to dredge an old thread, but it's high on Google's search results for "Goldtec Bolts" so I thought it may be useful to somebody else

mdcc_tester is, as usual, correct, the bolts are M8 and they are cheaper from a fastener shop.

    I ordered
    4 of these...

    and 4 of these...

...yesterday for £6.96 including delivery, they arrived today and fit my Goldtec hubs fine.

  • Sorry to bring this back from the dead. I keep reading about you guys saying the Goldtec bolts are rubbish and thinking about replacing them (front and rear). If the rear are M8 what size are the front?

  • I've got a bag of suitable rear bolts (M8), you can have some for the cost of postage.
I believe the fronts are M6 but it's been ages since I looked.

  • So if I order the ones that Jim/ posted but in an M6 they should fit the front? (same length etc).

  • Appreciate that this is a bit of a thread resurrection, but did anyone have any joy with this? I also have acquired a pair of Goldtec hubs without bolts...

It seems possible to buy M8 bolts and thick washers from the site listed by Jim to fit the rear. The front appear to be M6, for which it seems easy enough to buy bolts for but difficult to locate suitably thick washers. Any advice?

  • Look for 'form G' washers, form G being largest diameter, heaviest thickness.

This listing has 12 form G m6 washers for £1.50 and they are 18mm od and 1.6mm thickness, any use?

  • Any advice?

Use countersunk screws and matching countersunk washers. Much neater than either the stock Goldtec solution or thick flat washers

  • Thanks - some good ideas there.

  • Bought some of these M8 Load Spreading Cone Washers for the rear and M6 for the front, works a treat!
