I was just looking at these too. Were they Japan only? There are hints that a new version is coming in Jan.
I wondered if the ‘refurbs’ on eBay were legit; a new in box just went for £400 auction.

Getting kind of tempted by a Seiko SARB017 Alpinist.
Seiko boutique has the new release of these in three different variations and a see through back. They are nice, but £650. The brown strap is still awful but they have a variation with a decent looking leather. The bracelet version is the same price.

Getting kind of tempted by a Seiko SARB017 Alpinist.
Loving the sunburst green dial and the compass function. Not that I'd probably ever need it for when I do go up in the mountains as I have a map/compass and two GPS units anyway.
Just a pity that the standard strap is a bit shit.
