  • I guess one bad machine has put me off the brand, so in no way scientific.

I always had Bosch white goods. Bought a washing machine and tumble dryer about 8 years ago. The washer was a magnetic motor one, and the tumble dryer a heat pump model.

The washing machine wasn't up to much right from the start. Clothes came out visibly less clean than our previous machine. It also had a tendency to build up bad smells and mould inside. The filter and pump tended to clog. Then the hinges on the door broke. I got the part on line and replaced. About a year later, the hinges broke again. I replaced again. Then the interlock on the door started playing up and I lost patience with it.

To be fair, the tumble dryer is still going strong.

  • Hmm, sounds like you got very unlucky. Just checked and I bought mine four and a half years ago so maybe they got their act together in between. You can get Friday afternoon jobs from anyone though...

  • Its worth noting that in recent years the cheaper/lower spec Bosch white goods are manufactured in Spain and the more expensive stuff is still manufactured in Germany. This could explain it.
