Not sure C&J are higher end than Alden - would also put Carmina above Tricker’s and Cheaney.

Well. Stuff worth paying attention to based on price, quality at each price point is below. There are of course others but these are the one's worth actually looking at IMO. Probably worth identifiying a manufacturer that makes shoes in a last that fits the shape of your foot, your price point and going from there. E.g. Tricker's have some particularly wide/volumous lasts. C&J have (mostly) narrower and more elegant lasts.
Entry level: Meermin, Loake, Berwick 1707, NPS
Mid: Tricker's, Carmina, Cheaney, Alden, Carlos Santos
High: C&J
Really high: Gaziano Girling, George Cleverley, John Lobb, Foster & Son
