Other option is a magic gearing.

What's the small and most recent pompino like fit wise? I know the old ones are 700c only really due to dimpling but I've seen 650b on newer ones.
Mine is a hoot off-road even with 700*32. Wide carbon flat bars help a lot as they take a surprising amount of sting out of the surface.
Stick a disc fork on the front and you're sorted.

When you says around 380mm reach, what stem length you have in mind?
-
• #9957
Then widen your search to 390-400, even 410.
If you go for a 70mm stem, you can simply get a bike with a reach of 420mm and still be 100% fine, like a Surly.

My mate raced sscx at a relatively high level with a beer components ebb. It worked absolutely flawless on a Chinese carbon disc frame.

I’ve got that on my Caad10, one of the problems I have is that the chain ring bolts get in the way of the lock ring tool, takes a good bit of farting about to get adjusted. For reference I’m running 5800 chainset with a chain ring on the outside, with washers on the inside of the spider.

I'd disagree tbh. Much less going on on a bicycle.

Can you stay upright while blind drunk?
-
• #9962
Once I'm moving, the first few meters are the hardest.
-
• #9963
I've never cycled home blind drunk (and wouldn't), but definitely drunk and never had an issue. Not risking (as much) injury to anyone else on the road while doing it too.

heard good things too about beer components..

My gf makes the pretty reasonable argument that someone in a car swerving to avoid an erratic drink cyclist could pretty easily cause a lethal accident.
-
• #9967
Plenty of people cycle erratically enough to cause accidents. Anyway look at the numbers of deaths caused by drink driving and deaths caused by drunk cycling. In this sense they are not in any way comparable.
Have a drink or two and ride your bike it is fine do not @ me

'Relatively high level'. Didn't he come last at the Danish SSCX championships?

Drivers.... Trying to avoid hitting cyclists?
-
• #9970
That would be down to the drivers not driving to the condition.
Drunk drivers can sit down, and not feel out of control cause they’re not standing up, being all over the place thinking they’re ok.
Drunk, like properly drunk cyclist? They’re probably napping by the ditch after a 0.7mph fall trying to sit down

The following years he was competing at Danish A level.
It was more to say the ebb can hold up. -
• #9972
Well yes im sure it does but my guess is that he had to adjust the tension after every race which is not my bag
-
• #9973
Not as far as I know. Ride and forget
-
• #9974
Don't argue, just buy!
Quite a few of the Insta famous (and raced) sscx bikes are running ebbs.
-
• #9975
That was my experience too, basically retensioning was necessary after every race, and usually after any ride that involved hard efforts.
I haven't heard anything good from anyone about using ebbs on rough terrain. I also don't have the technical skill to keep it adjusted properly. I was hoping this would be a proper build-and-forget fixed kind of bike. EBBs on SS for CX maybe work, but I don't want a bouncy slack chain while descending fixed on some bridleway
