The Duchesne was my best friend bike few years ago. We rode near Lyon with it, it was a stunning bike for sure. Your setup is far more period correct than his (oval chainrings, carbon wheels, he is a former pro ...)

Again on the subject of the Duchesne - I take it the forks are threadless for this? Looks good with the ahead stem! 👍🏻

That is a lovely collection.

This was kind of the answer I was hoping for - so you’re running an ahead stem on a threaded steerer? Can you define what you mean by long enough? Do you mean the threaded part stops above the bottom of the stem at the point where it ‘might’ sheer? Looking to run an ahead stem on a fork with a threaded steerer as I can’t afford to do all the fork mods I want yet and need to see if I like the bike enough to invest etc...
Cheers,
Matt -

Yes 1" steerer threaded or not can fit a ahead stem easily if it is not cut too short

Yeah I know it fits, but many builders and mechanics believe it to be a dangerous thing to do because they say the threaded part could sheer due to weakening in the tube due to thread or ‘faultline’ - some say it is ok as long as the threaded section does not run lower than the bottom of the stem... how have you set yours up?
