• Anybody on here using a sub-compact crankset on a road bike? I'm planning on getting a new bike, and am thinking about getting a sub-compact as I really can't be doing with trying to use anything more than a 48 tooth large ring as, frankly, I'm just not able to use it much in highest gears, and so anything more just seems superfluous to me. I was thinking probably something like 48/36 would be more than enough as In really encounter truly big hills and I tend to almost always stick in thelarge front ring anyway. Its either that or single front ring

  • Also consider 46/36. I run this set up on one of my bikes. It's easy to move between chainrings. I ride mainly on my own these days - I'm getting too slow for faster club rides. I like to keep the gears spinning and not get too fatigued trying to push 50/52 chainrings.
