  • Parents have a Mu-so and went for Tidal.
We can tell a difference on some of the remastered tracks, but can't actually tell if they're better or just a little different 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • Yes and yes. Do not pass go, spend 200 quid on a second system, and in no time you'll be 'investing' in bass traps and listening to Steve reich. It happened to me.

  • There's a perceivable difference but for me it's just that the lower quality and potentially compressed files annoy me over a session of having the music on. Vinyl I can have on all day, badly compressed streamed music makes my ears hurt after an hour.

I'm pretty sure there's science to back it up but my research is done, I listen to and enjoy a lot more music now I'm taking care about the source and the quality.

  • The colour’s a bit of a giveaway isn’t it?

  • I feel like I need to try a new amp in my set-up. Anyone got anything decent going cheep?

  • Just don’t turn the light on. It’ll be reet...

  • what speakers are you using?

  • Celestion UL6’s. They’re amazing but I get inconsistent results with different sources, especially in the bottom end so I want to try a more modem amp.

  • Celestion UL6

    Interesting.

Are you in London? I could loan you my Meridian 205s to see where that gets you.

  • Oooh, that’s an interesting offer. In London 4 or 5 times a week. PM incoming

  • I have these speakers too!

Agree they're great but can lack bottom end. I've used some big old Rogers LS7 on the second speaker out on my amp to give them bass, sounded amazing.

Would be interested to hear your results with modern amps as my old ones have been a bit too unreliable and I'm tempted to get a newer (more reliable) amp.

  • Finally got my listening/tv room fully furnished and things like ceiling speakers installed.

Now running Dirac calibration. It feels like I have spent an hour listening to Star Trek woooo noises. Hoping it’ll be worthwhile.

  • Was a slow process and initially appeared the filters hadn’t saved.

But job done and the sound is much clearer, it has hugely reduced the bass boom and tidied it all up.

  • I need a mini jack to mini jack cable for my headphones, and I can't go to Richer Sounds anymore... Who's a decent Ebay supplier?

  • I tend to use Kenable or Visiosound.

  • Thanks will check them out.

  • You banned from RS? Shit on their carpet?

  • Ha, no. I simply moved abroad. There's hifi shops here, but nothing like RS.

  • Just found this lot in my local s/h record and music junk shop.

  • Fucking hell - what a find!

  • Is that a 9800?!? Fucking hell!

  • 8800 I think. Yep. No price on it. He tends to overprice stuff then accept offers well under.

  • Where is this magical grotto of which you speak?

  • I'm not really in the market at the moment but happy to pick it up if anyone's interested.

  • Faversham. Hatter's Hall. It's 90% junk but Les is an amiable old cove. His records are great and well priced and he does get the occasional gem in.
