  • ^ Was the pastry really that yellow?

  • Latest deck was Waitrose All Butter.

Pastry too biscuity. Filling pretty good. Not worth the extra over M&S Red Box.

  • Now this is an intriguing message to receive from one's wife

  • Just sampled 2 x Tesco lattice top specimens. Some say that a lattice detracts from the integrity of the overall structure but I don't subscribe to that school of thought. It simply ups the ratio of pastry to mincemeat, which generally is no bad thing in my book. A dollop of extra thick double cream on the side and I'm quite content.

  • fairly proud of this display at a work event the other night

  • where do you work? jeffrey epstein's island?

  • You spilled some coke on the floor.

  • I like the way they've put mince pies on a table.

  • M&S posh jobbies are the winner for me this year.

  • Just had one from Beigel Bake. 45p, perfect crumbly pastry and good filling. Not quite as generous as others on the filling but all round banger.

  • Had a couple of Prince Charles' organic efforts today (Dutchy Original).

Pastry was a bit brittle. Filling was ok, bit of a citrus tang. A rather average affair, overall.

  • Well, Mrs Hedge wasn't wrong.

Mincers from Flor, Bread Ahead, Ottolenghi and Konditor.

Have we bitten off more than we can chew?

Only one way to find out.

    Death or glory.

  • Third pic gets my vote. Bet that's the best

  • Sweet Jesus. This is the best night of my life.

  • Others look like meat pies.
    Tasty meat pies

  • Just jel. No mince pie in the house. Only panettone.

  • Truth

  • Pic 1- Ottolenghi - Best mincemeat of the season so far. Very spiced and fragrant. Suet gives a nice richness. Old school short crust with egg wash, a little bit chewy....could have done with a crisp up in the oven. 9/10 if you ignore the slightly chewy pastry, 8/10 if you don't.

Pic 2- Bread Ahead. Deep filled with mince that seems to have been aged for a long time...rich and spicy with juicy fruits. Touch of booze.Pastry is buttery short crust. No egg wash. Crystal Demerara on the top. 10/10

Pic 3-Konditor- Pastry so savoury that it is slightly cheesy. I like it but might be unpopular. Mince a touch flat and uninspiring. Egg washed. 6/10.

Pic 4-Flor- Puff pastry. Crystal Demerera on top. mince is left field. Tastes more like burned Christmas pudding. Strangely alluring. 5/10 if judged as a mince pie, 7/10 if judged as a pastry.

Get to Bread Ahead in Borough market. Their pie is the fucking bollocks. Pic attached.

Edit: the Bread Ahead ones are £7.50 for 3! 😳

  • Tomorrow we try them all warmed.

  • Cheese. Where do we stand with cheese?
And panettone? Wtf do I do with this? Custard? Soak in booze?

  • Panettone - if dry, moisten with Vin Santo or other sweet wine, and serve with cream? Also makes great bread pudding.

  • Muchos

  • Puff pastry

    None of this

  • Soak in booze

    All of this
