I'm still gluing ball bearings in. Haven't had anything stolen yet. And I lock up a single-speed, so there's not much on it to steal.

What’s your glue of choice, and how difficult is it to pop the ball bearings out when you need ?
-
• #14729
Poundland super glue, a ball bearing a lot smaller than the hole it goes in, and maybe a bit of Uhu softer glue over the top. Use acetone if I need to break down the superglue, usually in the form of nail polish remover. And I stick a bit of glue in the bolts on the stem front plate where it's too small to get a ball bearing in.

why are we putting this knowledge out there?

Google of phone number also comes up with images of dozens of bikes all having been on gumtree.

I don't think the average thief has time to be dicking around with nail varnish remover as it's not super quick. There's lots of ways they could get the controls faster (admittedly probably involving power tools).
-
• #14735
Yup, they still could try to though...

Pretty sure I just checked out a stolen On One Pompino, Halo fixed wheels, Avid Cantilever brakes in Kilburn. Either that or I just passed up on a bargain.
/// Update ///
I told the guy that was selling this bike out of an offie to report it to the police and give it in. He didn’t want too but was happy for me to just take it and report it (he obviously knew it was stolen but didn’t want to tell me where he got it from).
Anyway, I have it, the police don’t want it, if you know anyone who has had one pinched pls put them in touch.// Update //
This has been reunited with its owner.

This is the one I’m talking about above ^^^

If anything that's expensive for a Pompino.
-

Maybe the offie should be raided?

@Kieran_Ferguson_PC_2224T used to comment here but he has mentioned that the task force has been disbanded (also per his profile).
Wonder if he's the same PC Kieran of Brixton Skate Park!

Yeah, that’s definitely shifty. Such an odd description.

My 14 yr old son was mugged in Victoria park V&A playground (East London) at 5pm, Saturday 14th Dec 2019, for his bike & phone. It’s irreplaceable bicycle, handmade by a relative and only had it for a few weeks.
Adult sized black fixed gear single speed bike: green handle bar grips, glow in the dark pedals, silver rims, sturmey archer cranks.
I have alerts set up for eBay, gumtree, Facebook marketplace. We went down to Brick Lane market yesterday.
I don’t hold much hope for finding it but got to try...
The Hackney Police robbery team are involved.

Hope the experience doesn't scare him too much. It's pretty harrowing to be mugged at that age.

Yes it’s not nice. He should be able to be outside at 5pm in Hackney but the darkness of winter and the lack of CCTV in the park makes it a crap time to be out and about for a 14 year old.
Likewise. Torx at the very least. I'm trying to get us to stock hexlox as well. I reckon the lower end thieves rather than those with bike storage are going after the controls. Easier to store and move on.
