... before even thinking.
You’ve got that nailed.

I still think voting reform is an important one.
Have you got anything optimistic for me to read on this? It's the kind of thing I want to believe in but I'm struggling to see how it could happen with these cunts handing themselves a mandate for harder, deeper kleptocracy.

In all the soul searching I can't help but feel we are ignoring the obvious answer - violent revolution. I'm not sure how smug the Tories would be feeling with a few of their friends in the City and in Mayfair swinging from the lamp posts.

Of course, proportional representation has its charms too.
-
• #3256
That would be a dream that will never happen. I couldn't even find the courage to mention it.
-

In short, no, not yet. There's quite a lot of noise on social media but no clear positive steps for people to take. It's not something I think a £2+ per month direct debit payment is going to solve so I'm not signing up to that.

Oh, I'm all for dragging them through the streets by their own steaming entrails. We'll need time to build up our weedy little arms into sturdy enough pistons for anything other than outraged keyboard-mashing, though.

That's the spirit... But it must be dreamed without drinking the spirit... And the cylinders are needed as well.. the rods, etc

He should’ve been expelled in 2016 when 3/4 of labour MPs voted to get him out..

I can't see it happening, not with the Tories support of the majority of the press and now their handle on social media. 68% voted to keep FPTP last time...

anything optimistic
Maybe Farage can mobilise enough loonies to get something done in a decade or so.

Am I alone in thinking MikeGuy is a really poor AI bot sent from the future (or maybe past) to troll LFGSS?

On BBC news on saturday (was listening to a radio show on catchup) they talked about how BloJob was visiting his new constituencies in the north east. then they played a clip of the new MP for newcastle under lyme.
-
• #3265
The alternative was some half assed compromise that barely anyone wanted though.

newcastle under lyme
Just looked that up... definitely would have made the same mistake hangs head
-

Why? Doesn’t that mean theyre trying to be in power for more than 5 years?
Before the FTPA, Parliaments were restricted to five years. It is a cumbersome and unnecessary piece of legislation that has done nothing to stop snap elections being called. It is a statute that should never have been enacted. The concern is that when it is repealed it will be replaced, not by what was there before but by something worse

Wait, the article suggests that Mark Carney is saying the likelihood of crashing out without a deal has decreased?
-
• #3270
The changing the law thing is silly - no parliament can bind the hands of a future one.
Johnson caved last time he faced no deal, I imagine the theory is he'll cave again.
-
• #3271
Yeah, it's pointless. It's not like he's shown much compunction over breaking the law up until now anyway, why should this be any different?
-
• #3272
Nicky Morgan and Zac Goldsmith both given peerages so they can continue in the cabinet. Why bother with elections, eh? "People's Government"
-
• #3273
Yes, but the ERG is going to support this bill and not support any repealing of it. Depending on the numbers he may need the help of Labour/LDs to stop no deal in future. Politically that is going to play badly for him (understatement)
Could end up with some nutter bringing a court case against him to force us out, like Gina Miller's evil twin
-
• #3274
Yeah, I had the same thought. Based on their last reply, definitely a bot

Which is why all the gains that the £ has made vs the $ and the € just got wiped out.
I think crunch point is June, if we are not going to apply for an extension to transition then it's shit-meet-fan time, albeit with a nice 6 months to execute the contingency plan.
It's not all good, it's just what it is. I'm not happy about it. But after the last election we must let them work and do, before even thinking.
