If not much surely the better grip/puncture resistance of the Maxxis (dependant on model and of Schwalbe) makes the drag pretty irrelevant?

There is that. I can't help but think of the efficiency, but if this is a bike for uplift days, then chunky tyres ftw!

Hard to answer that - I'm going to try to ride every weekend, in the expectation of failing to hit that goal (if that makes sense). An ideal weekend would be Peaslake on the Saturday and Swinley on the Sunday, taking the appropriate bike to each.

Since I started talking to Pace they've put together an XT version, for ~700 less than the XTR version they've specified for me. I stuck with the Schwalbe tyres, but they've put the XT on Maxxis.
I found the Maxxis very draggy as they've got a much more aggressive profile, but as it's an Enduro bike they might be a better bet - thoughts?
