I found they varied a lot. In particular if your neighbours employ a third party surveyor they know they can take the piss as you'll be paying for it, not them, and it's really difficult to contest the excessive fees.
The ones I experienced varied between about £450 and £1,100 (inc VAT).

Any guide costs on party wall surveyors?
Feel like we may have to knock through the top of a wall surrounding a door to a bedroom to have enough of a run-up for some stairs to the loft so the angle isn't too steep.
MS Paint drawing + mouse = pissed stairs.
