I love that , and even though I had a seamaster 300 for my birthday in March I have ordered one for myself !

Can you tell me what the second crown is for?
-

It’s the helium escape valve, ostensibly for saturation divers but which will (and should) never be used by anyone else.

Glad someone else was wondering.

That looks fantastic - you’re hired.

I agree - think it’s a strong offering and that it’ll sell out. Love the dome crystal and vintage vibe. Ten times better than the recent gun barrel offering. I just hope they end up making a version of the design with a more ‘normal’ lume / price as I think with a few tweaks it would be a smash.

Thanks, might pop in tomorrow to have a closer look. .

Wonder if anyone noticed the helium escape valve delete...

Looks like the 366.0827. Early ‘70s.
Really like these, a lot less ostentatious and more subtle than todays offerings. How lovely that will sit below a cuff.
Looking at Chrono24 the prices have shot up in a very imprecise measure, of me relying on past viewings and memory. -

Oh I did. Long standing bone of contention on the 300M.

Why ? It’s part of what makes it what it is .

This.. .

Just how ugly it is, I think. Plus that, as a manually operated valve, it’s an inferior solution to the Rolex design (or the Seiko solution of superior sealing to keep the helium out in the first place).
It doesn’t really bother me, personally, and yeah, it is definitely a signature of the 300M. As is the scalloped bezel that’s unnecessarily difficult to operate. ;)

I’m not a 300M hater by the way. I really like the current model, apart from it being too thick and having such a fussy bracelet design. And I dig the skeleton hands (unlike many people).

I know it’s all personal taste and people’s preferences but the one thing I will say about seamaster 300 diver in all its guises is that it’s not generally a “weekend warriors “ “desk diver” people who own them wear all the time including doing rufty tufty stuff . It’s probably the watch we see the most for servicing and they do come in battered . The Rolex subs we see tend to be “pampered” . And I know I am Mr Omega on here and I have a previous generation seamaster and a new one but I think even at the new pricing the standard watch is a brilliant bit of kit.

Mr Omega. You should get that on a T-shirt.

I have got an Omega hat.....

On a recent holiday for diving, I noticed a fellow wearing a very nice Rolex Pepsi Sub checking in at the same time as us. A few days later, he was on the same snorkelling trip as us and was not wearing the watch. I started chatting to him and got onto the subject of timepieces, the tl;dr was that his wife was back on shore looking after it for him.

For an Omega head - rather apt.

One of these. I'm not a Rolex nerd.
