What time is it? Watches and horology

The Rolex subs we see tend to be “pampered” .

On a recent holiday for diving, I noticed a fellow wearing a very nice Rolex Pepsi Sub checking in at the same time as us. A few days later, he was on the same snorkelling trip as us and was not wearing the watch. I started chatting to him and got onto the subject of timepieces, the tl;dr was that his wife was back on shore looking after it for him.
