  • Anybody riding the Welsh Castles Populaire from Bristol tomorrow? Will be there with a London contingent after a nice ride to Bristol today (well some of us took the train to Reading)

  • Sounds like a nice jaunt in wales. Have fun.

  • Thanks, fun was had!

  • On the way to Bristol on the so-called "Folly Road"

  • I did - was a lovely day out. Really enjoyed the two main climbs - I'd not been up the one from Redbrook before and it was a bit of a treat. I think we rode together briefly at the start - you were chatting to the guy on the Condor Tempo on the way to the bridge; I was riding with him on the fixed Cotic.

  • Ah yes, I remember, nice bike! Agreed it was a really good day for it and a lovely route too.

  • Did my first DIY today. 200k in 7hrs and 5 mins. That's 3 months into my RRtY.

  • @bjf that's a solid ride - elapsed time or ride time? Hats off in any case.

I've got 2 short organised audaxes coming up this weekend in Bristol - Thames Tickler 115km on Saturday, and then a Monday night 100km starting at 7pm which finishes at the Beer Emporium.

  • Total time, time on the bike was 6hrs 47mins. It's my fastest 200k.

I'm having to do less rides up Bristol this year to try and save some cash. I'll only go up when I can car share and split the Travelodge.

    Good luck for the weekend.

  • That was already a quick ride, and then I saw the 2,700m of climbing! Bloody well done. Looks like a lovely route too.

  • Oh yeah, it was on fixed.

  • And only 18 mins off the bike for a 200km is very disciplined.

  • finished my second rrty on sunday - felt like a total slog at points (didn't help that it was my second 200 in as many weeks, after 3ish weeks off the bike due to injury), but these long rides are still my absolute favourite.

(hoping to help organise a calendar event for next year. quite excited!)

  • Impressive day out, especially on fixed.

  • Well done! It's also a good strategy to get the winter slogs out of the way at the start of a RRTY, rather than at the end!

  • Congrats! I think it's harder than other awards to achieve, due to a number of factors.

  • Impressive. Well done.

  • A group of us are riding the Bethlehem Mail 200 on Monday. It's north out of Cardiff up through the beacons, west round to Bethlehem, Llandeilo, Ammanford, Clydach and then back through Port Talbot and Bridgend. Apparently it's the done thing to get your Christmas cards stamped and sent from there. Hopefully the weather isn't too shitty, and serves as a good ride before the festive 500. I'm currently trying to navigate my way through an online DIY submission for the first time, give me strength..

  • Had got the missus onboard with getting her a RRtY and were going to start this weekend but neither of us fancy swimming our way around the lanes for 12 hours for that shit. Thanks England.

  • I'm feeling the same for Sunday, looks dry but the roads will be terrible after all the rain this week
