Chain length advice - SRAM 1X

Posted on
  • Hi,

I have SRAM 1x11 running on my bike.. it originally came with a 42t front ring and a 11-36 rear cassette. I recently changed the rear cassette for a 42t.. so essentially now running 42t - 42t. The current chain is too short.. I want to order a new one but don't know what length.. The bike is a Genesis CDF, so will a normal 114 link chain be long enough and allow me to cut it down? Or do I need to start with a longer 116 - 118 chain? Also I was looking at the PC1130.. is that the correct chain for the 1X setup??

    Thanks

  • Last time I changed chain I think I got 114 links and the chain is barely, just long enough (42/40 drivetrain).
Get longer if available, cutting is easy. PC 1130 is fine, as it's any 11 speed chain.

  • I run 118 link with a 42/42 drivetrain.

  • Thanks.. so 118 link with no cutting?

  • Just get the longest chain and cut it? No one can be sure 100%.

  • Some bikes have longer chainstays than others, just get the longest and cut
