700c 55mm mudguard work, as the majority of frames can actually accept 700c wheels.

Would it be possible to make an Arkose 650b fixed? If so, how would I do it?
-
• #9804
Does anyone have a Omnium CXC?
-
• #9805
Eccentric bb to tension the chain should be enough, no?

magic gearing, and fixed 6 bolt cog on disc wheel.
(unless you have the singlespeed Arkose).

White Industries ENO hub maybe.
Potentially run with a rear disc brake if you use a screw 6 bolt disc adapter. Not sure if you can make the caliper sit perfect on the disc rotor tho -

That is not going to give any tension.

On the subject of mudguards... the mason load bearing mudguard thing. Is that only compatible with mason forks/frames or anything which is drilled for a front brake?
-
• #9813
I won't need a rear brake, I would like proper chain tension though

Magic gearing.

Then an 135mm ENO hub is the ticket.
I have one but in 130mm -
• #9816
That never really is a good solution imo

Take my (other) pompino. 650b and discs are overrated!
-
• #9818
Agreed, unless you can get it dialed to good tension on a fresh chain, and have a massive bag of sram pc1 chain off cuts, like on my nishiki lol
-
• #9819
Great! Anyone have a small single speed arkose they want to shift :)
Sorry @pastry_bot I never got on with my pomp as much as I'd like to

• #9820
Thanks, yes that helps loads! GB are Giles Berthoud (should’ve specified!)
-
• #9821
One of my mates does.. What do you want to know?
-
• #9822
If they're any good, and what the handling is like as the geo is pretty steep?
-
• #9823
Yeah as it’s not easy to get the right gearing you want, but it’s not the end of the world, especially with fixed.
-
• #9824
I think it is very nice. Much lighter than expected for a steel frameset in that price range.
I think the geo is meant to be trackbike-like, hence the steepness. It means it has a high bottom bracket, which is great for off tarmac pursuits, but you might experience toe overlap.
Very short wheelbase so highly #flickable, #nippy or whatever you want to call it.It has horizontal drouputs with a mech hanger, but according to my mate it is very finicky to setup with gears and rear brake caliper compared to a vertical dropout.
You could consider the 8-bar Mitte Steel which has sliding dropouts and a shallower head angle instead.

Surely if you set it up with the idea that it's working as a normal dropout, you'd never need to slide the dropout/caliper around. Loctite it properly and it'd never move. I can see it'd require some work setting it up as a SS/fixed obviously.
650B mudguards - any recommendations?
Finding myself commuting on my Vitus most of the time at the moment and am growing tired of a wet bum
Just asking before I order the spendy option of the PDWs from Condor, which will be a bit more spendy than I expected as I've just realised that their Black Friday code expired last night
