I know what you mean. I’m erring towards the Kinesis ATR though, Mike Hall was an ambassador, and whilst he would have been paid, I think he would have chosen his kit with care.

Just built this up, 1996 Eddy Merckx EX.
I yearn for a Merckx MX Leader fork or other over size Columbus Max fork with about 240mm of steerer (anyone?...more likely to find a unicorn I know) to replace the ye olde 1 inch threaded, carbon Kestral with steel steerer jobbie, which like most carbon forks look gopping. I'm close to it but I'd like the bike to be totally carbon-free.
Coolest Merckx decals ever IMHO

First ride out today on my Kinesis Tripster ATR. Self assembled the groupset is GRX Di2 and wheels are Hunt.
Really pleased with the first ride, mudguards not really needed but nice for the winter. Multiple mounting points were the decider for me after a demo at an LBS.

Shifting is normal Di2 standard. The shape of the hoods made for a really comfortable ride. I was worried the hydro cable might be intrusive but hardly noticed it on the ride.
Installation was really simple as normal although this is the first time I’ve got all cables internally routed.
I really like the lock on the rear mech tensioner that keeps tension on the chain. Little or no chain slap when riding. -

Nice that, it's a no from me on the chainstay protection though.
Self amalgamating tape from Screwfix is what you want.

Surely just some wrapped innertube?
Has anyone got ti forks with theirs? Quite a big fan of the all ti look rather than the ubiquitous black fork. (I know, it could just be painted)

So VMB <3 so so cool !

It’s a short term install probably gonna wrap some inner tube but the tape sounds a good idea.

Impatient thread bump
nearly finished a slow motion update on this thing, out went the Campag Athena group / Record wheels and slowly slowly, a DA 9000 groupset appears in its place (shifters are 8000 because balls to paying twice the price for titanium clamps and a Dura Ace logo...), wheels are DA 9000 on Open Pros that were swiped from my other bike - I managed to find a set of cheap 6800 to replace them so it didn't feel too bad about being shafted so everyone's happy.
I may even take a photo with an actual camera instead of a mangled phone once it's properly finished, shock horror!

looks nice. those the new ritchey classic bars?

Cheers, probably not the most imaginative build but I had my fun & that's all that matters, got the gear cables to fit & some leather bartape then that's it done. Forever. Honest.
The bars are indeed Ritchey classics - well spotted, got them a few years ago when I first built this up, think they stopped doing the Evo curve model for a while, must have brought them back - nice shape, shiny, what's not to like?
Was -5 in Glasgow yesterday, it might not see the light of day until April at this rate...

Took the decals off the top tube, bought some mudguards and a proper rear light. Next up might by hydraulics if i can get them second hand as I'm possible moving the shifters/brakes to another project.
When spring comes around I might go for some gumwalls, cut the steerer, and buy a more subtle seatpost clamp.
Weighs roughly 9.3kg without saddle bag/garmin/lights

A bit late to this thread but I had Richard Hallett build me a stainless track bike in time for the National Madison champs in 2016. I chose him because he was taught by Cliff Shrubb who made my previous frame and he's a proper engineer; we spent a lot of time going through each tube to make the bike as stiff and aero as possible.
http://www.halletthandbuiltcycles.com/track.html
It's mostly Reynolds high polish 953 with a Columbus tapered headtube (those 44mm would look out of place) and XCR chain stays as 953 didn't come in a taper I wanted. Forks are Alpina DF4 and the paint is by Colourtech with masked out "decals".
Components have changed a bit over time and various wheels get used but I've tried to go with a made in Britain theme so Hope headset and seatpost, Fibrelyte chainrings, Goldtech hubs and Royce BB.
I got my Cliff Shrubb in 2002 and similarly I still expect to be racing the Hallett in 10 years, it's already been crashed and dented!

Top marks for the made in england theme...it's be interesting to know how the steel performed in comparison to the modern aero carbons?

Happy you removed the decals? IMHO it looks better

Well it's lighter than most and just as stiff but definitely not as aeros. Seeing as frames are quite far down the list when it comes to aero gains and I like to hide in the wheels for as long as possible, I'll forsake those marginal gains for this bike!

This bike looks like it's set up for long distance. Really like the light mount on the fork.
What have you used to secure the bottle under the down tube?
-
• #1098
That paint job is very simple yet makes the bike really stand out against all these ti / stainless frames with black carbon forks.
Also, as per forum rules, is the Lightweight wheel available?

You'll have to ask my dad, I borrowed it off him!

Long distance is the aim 😏, it’s now more about me and my head than the bike.
On the Kinesis Tripster there are multiple bottle bosses.
1 on the seat tube and the topside down tube, these can be mounted in a high or low position.
On the underside of the down tube there is another set of bosses. I’ve mounted a Fabric tool keg there.
You can also see the bosses on the Range forks for Salsa or gorilla cages. The front light is mounted on an adaptor from SJS. It won’t be able to stay there with the Gorilla cages mounted.
I think that GRX 600 complete with Hunt wheels is worth every €/£. Saddle swapped just for personal preferences.. And for bars I was just after a little less drop and littlebit more reach.
As Im not from UK this was ordered from the webshop. In my opinion Reilly is a bit more "indie" than Kinesis.. :D Anyways the gravel ti market seem to have exploded as almost every manufacturer has their own gravel ti model. Higly recommend on that Reilly!
