By considerably overpaying for my car I have hopefully delayed the point at which maintenance cost = purchase price. Only cos it’ll take longer to get there, not because things won’t go wrong.

Bleak!
The one saving grace is that if you’re handy there are guides to repairing everything and refurb’d parts are often available. I’ve done various small bits myself but there seems to be no end of things that can and will go wrong.
