I am excited to report on the new Pret eggless mayo baguette, which is the closest thing to egg mayo I've had since vegverting. It's tofu scramble, basically, so the mayo is doing the heavy lifting, and it's doing it damn well.
Also tried their chuna roll last week, which was alright, but I've never had tuna, so have no idea if it's in any way similar.

Anyone watching the BBC documentary?
-
• #7080
Nope, I'm vegan already, so don't need to watch anything that makes me angry.

I recorded it to watch later... got a good response in the office this morning though... I'll watch it with the GF... which is slowly but surly converting ;)

I second this. The burger was good, but too small. Very disappointed considering the price. The rent in pop Brixton must be high.
Halo burger in Brixton: Went for the first time today. Over priced tiny portions and not a patch on Temple of Seitan. Big up East London! 😆

Greggs mince pies are vegan, £1.75 for 6 in a box. Sugary with enough filling.

Just ate one, as good as last year's IMO. Would eat again.

Not sure that I'd agree with the measures used - having the most purely vegan outlets doesn't necessarily make it the most vegan-friendly city overall. I'm sure there are smaller cities with proportionately more options.

I'd also take issue with the decision to lead with a photo of The Fauxmagerie. It's not exactly a cheesemonger - popped in last week and it's more like a cafe that happens to sell two vegan cheeses (which were very good).

Anyone tried the various vegan Galaxy bars yet?
-
• #7089
Yeah, I wasn't convinced by this either. I assume Happy Cow still relies on users and/or owners to create and maintain their listings? I wonder how many users they have, and how they are distributed or travel, particularly those who go to the effort of adding new establishments rather than just leaving reviews. It felt like HappyCow entries were relatively sparse in NZ and Australia compared to what was actually available and compared with using it in the UK/parts of the US.
Admittedly I've never been arsed to sign up and do anything about it so I shouldn't really complain.

Anyone know a decent resource for finding vegan trainers? Haven't been able to find one, weak google fu...
-
• #7093
All Karhu running specific trainers are vegan (according to someone that works there) and two of their Legacy versions are as well... I've had my eye on the Legacy version for a while now.

Anyone else tried IAmNutOk cheese from Broadway or Vicky Park mkts? £6 for a small slice but loads of flavours, chipotle, pepper, smoked etc. Good to make about 6 cheese n onion rolls/sarnies. It’s worth it.

Er oops ... thanks, O. I didn't even look it up, as it's not Monday. Must di do dueligence.
Right, looks like a change of plan's required.
Should we go somewhere else nearby that evening (plenty of choice, e.g. Gallery Café or Cook Daily again), or pick another date for the Pizza Shop?

No, when I read about that, the first thing I remembered is how I never used to like Galaxy. I'll probably try one at some point but don't expect them to be a success. Hope I'm wrong.
It's interesting with those mainstream products--some, e.g. vegan Magnums, have very quickly filtered into the mainstream, whereas others, e.g. Hellman's vegan mayonnaise, I have yet to see anywhere--but I only go to local shops and I suppose they're probably only in one or several of the major retailers so far.

Same date as the next R3 sound system in Trafalgar Square... sorry!
^^ See above--do mention a different date if you can make one in the run-up to Christmas.
Would love to go to this, fairly sure I can't tho.
But still good for 3 Dec.
