• Ahhh interesting. Yeah after some cursory internet investigating this afternoon with @Chak and staring at some pictures of Reilly, Donohue and other steel frames, we reckon it might be 853.

I'm sure he'll chime in at some point, he knows more about this stuff than I do. Gona oogle the bb shell try find a frame number to help investigations.

  • @Skülly I don't really know much outside of the usual bit of digging and some visual cues. Atom seems to have a lot of 853 frames out there; the tubing profiles look similar to what Weigh/Donoue used on their tubing.
I'd hazard a guess this might have been a custom order for someone as the sizing is interesting and the add ones are too. I'd like to think it was a TT bike at some point.

The guard bosses are even more interesting and I have no idea why as the clearances won't allow for masses of tyre, but the rest looks distinctly 853. Would be interesting to weigh it and see if it might align with what a frame of similar size and material might. Original forks would have given us a tad more info maybe.

Doing a bit of further digging, it seems like a few of the Atom frames were made by Chris Reilly, who might have some relation to Mark Reilly of Reilly Bikes. I don't know, this is all hypothetical, but it is curious stuff.

Maybe with a serial number and some emailing we might know more. All in all, very interesting frame.
