• I am leaning heavily towards getting a mitsubishi outlander phev. It's some kind of leasing deal, fully speced car with blinky screens, things that go beep and cameras everywhere. Am I an idiot? Not interested in owning a car again, the last two have been money pits and by my calculations this won't be much more expensive than fixing/maintaining an older car that'll rot and depreciate no matter what.

  • Just returned one of these after a 3 year lease.
They are either brilliant or useless depending on the type of driving your do. If you do lots of short journeys (less than 20 miles) and can plug it in, they are great, you can get everywhere on the electric and life is good. If you do mainly long journeys then after 20 miles you are left with a thirsty heavy (lots of batteries!) petrol engine with quite a small fuel tank.
Traded in for the l200 pickup which has all the same gadgets, and they re useful.

  • Good to hear!

    lots of short journeys

Yes. Groceries, kids to & fro, etc etc

    can plug it in

    Yes.

    long journeys

    Seldom.

Need the size & a towhook, otherwise I'd get something smaller and preferably all electrical. But leasing a small car costs almost as much as a big one, no point for us atm.
