Only just watched the Barelli vid. That trail is scary. He says at one point "Always take the gnarliest lines. That's how you validate a trail."
And he does take every gnarliest line in every gnarly section in what might be the most rowdy trail in the world.

Got a jumps+drops course,BPW and Afan trips coming up rapidly...don’t currently wear any pads, or fall of much. But if I were to buy pads, which do people find most useful/used? Knees? Torso? Elbow?

Knees. Then elbows.

BPW is foolish without knee pads, ask my friend Arthur

Juicy! Knee pads it is!

I’d say just go for trail/enduro style knee pads that only have padding and no hard shell. They’re more comfortable and easier to pedal in.

The knee / shin guard integrated type are pretty good I find.
BPW has a pretty good selection of pads and protectors and you can try on there too. Got a pair of the light Fox elbow guards last time and was impressed.

'Ard Rock - who's done it? Would be interested to hear people's experiences.
Only tickets remaining at the moment are for the Epic, which sounds like quite a challenge.

What make do you have for the integrated knee shin guards? Sounds like what I’m after, had a few pedal to shin moments already

Do you ride clips or flats out of interest?
-

Might give these a try for the all-in-one version: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/fox-racing-launch-pro-knee-shin-guards-1/
Are they generally sized in leg girth or leg length?

Girth

Go to some shops are try brands for sizing. Badly fitting pads are useless

Flats, on a hardtail. Will get a full sus for BPW

When are you going?

Get an e bike. Was hilarious fun hooning it up the single track climb faking Elite watts per kilo.
Buy pads whilst there? You won’t win on price but you can try on and go a small way to support the local economy a bit more.

Saves farting around with ones that don't fit too.
Since I stopped riding BMX and started riding MTB pads have come such a long way. I've got some pads that were pretty advanced when I first started riding but now are archaic.

Good idea - on bikes and pads

Highly likely that I'll be heading to Peaslake Sunday morning for an explore. Mostly Pitch Hill side. Probably aim to be in Peaslake for about 9:15, say meet at the bus stop by the stores ready to ride for 9:30.
Did a ride there last weekend following a mate about who knows the trails quite well so will be largely following his bread crumbs but maybe just trying other gaps in the hedges to see what about. Some of the stuff is quite steep and techy but also walkable if you don't like the look of bits of it.
If anyone fancies it...

Ever try Redlands?

Summer Lightening side? In which case, yes, but not for a little while.

I think he means to the south of Coldhabour, possibly around here. There’s loads of stuff and it’s all a bit mad.
