  • Yeah thanks man, exactly what I think now. Though sometimes still have those what ifs

  • Lovely bike. Yeah couldn’t see a Elite being much use enjoying likely living on a road in e17

  • Haha great photo! Yeah always said I’d get something down the line in keeping with the old man. He was proper hands on with cars and it’s a shame I never reached now and had time to learn more. Gf has said I’m allowed something stupid at some point so maybe time to buy something silly. I’ve never actually owned a car since.

  • My dad around 21 with a midget with custom bonnet. Original Essex boy racer..

  • love the suit! cool af.

  • Yeah cheers, my favourite photo

  • Interesting that it has a hardtop.

  • Know very little about merc engines other than the 190d. Then nothing more than oil changes and filter replacement.

  • Yep that and the bonnet. Car wouldn’t of been that old at that point. Max power job of the ‘60’s

  • I think it’s a Lenham midget. They turned midgets into fastbacks and put the rad bonnets on them. There’s plenty of them racing.

  • Fuck, totally forgot about Jack... He was terrible...

  • This is wonderful!

  • Isn't it an Ashley bonnet? The Lenham bonnets have a smilier face.

  • No idea

  • Epic, thanks!
Will possibly pick your brains about how to get inside various parts of it, figured you might have been in behind all the trim at this point, easier than me smashing my way through all the clips. Have a low/medium parasitic drain that I haven't found yet, as well as it doesn't charge that well (13.6 to 13.8v instead of 14v+) despite previous putting a new starter, battery and recon alternator on it.

  • You know the pull all the fuses out and then add them back one by one till one (hopefully) circuit has the drain on.

Depending how modern, automotive stuff runs at 13.8 nower days not 14.4 any more.

  • Had a few 1275 midgets, all were MOT fails and as welding there was always a reassemble job. Everyone was sold with a big valve head and hardened valve seats and changed from twin carb to single carb...or as it was in reality the head, skimmed manifold and carb from an mg metro!

One car came with a pair of amal carbs that were worth more than I paid for the car.

  • Interesting, guess my low battery is maybe just from this drain then.
So many fuses, also canbus type modules that stay powered up for ages, suspect it might be the recon alternator diode pack is maybe not 100% as it seems to be pretty constant. Turbo is coming out tomorrow and alt is right under it (absolute arse to get to from underneath without just removing it) so thats my time to check it.
I see a lot of ford focus (2005-2010 shape) with the ODO still lit up at night, some mad canbus issue probably causing that too!

  • MB Club is pretty good for maintenance questions: https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/

My battery has gone flat once, but on reflection I think I must have left it unlocked which left something on.

  • Check the earth straps and what disconnecting and reconnecting the alternator does to the readings. That way you can see if anything changes.

Main fuseboard trick can give you an idea what area and then go in to each sub system. Traced issues on an Alfa 159 that had central locking motor that was not going to the right closed position. That took ages to find as the sub system kept cycling and not going to the off position.

  • Wait, are you living in Meath now Mick?

    Last ten pages have been a real whirlwind;

So we've gone from @Dammit buying a 996 GT3 (terrible idea though based on propensity for tinkering and already owning the cabby) to moving to the Wesht of Ireland?

  • Trying to make people move west so that i have forum people to hang out with when i move there next year

  • Where are you moving to?
