Hello! I am here to talk about Paul canti brakes.

Go on...

• #30
thats it, i think my voice should be heard no matter how misinformed it is
-

fwiw I had TRP CX8.4 on my macho man with sram levers for 6 months or so and switched to revox carbon, the diff was amazing. Mini V are mug's game.

I’m having trouble trying to find cantis that I can actually afford. Would love shorty ultimates but they’re insane money
-
• #33
no1 buys new cantis
-
• #34
What was the difference? Stopping power or mud clearance. A lot of the reviews on trp vs mention that modulation is pretty much nonexistent
-
• #35
Tektro cr710s are a contender for price and availability
-
• #36
Also, do I need a rear hanger for cantis?
-
• #37
Surly do a seatpost collar bolt mounted canti hanger, which I happen to have a spare one in the shed. If you go canti, let me know, I'll post it to you.
Shimano make some pretty good cantis, have a look at them. If you're not going to be riding muddy routes go mini Vs, if you want the extra mud clearance go canti. -

Brakes purchased! Gone with trp cx8.4s. Just need to sort headset and this build is nearly done
-

Now on to drivetrain. Running SRAM rival 1x chainring. Do I need to stick to a sram 10/11 speed chain and can I use a 1/8 cog?
-
• #40
8.4s are the best brakes for SRAM levers. If you're going to be riding anything that muddy then skinner tyres are better anyway. I still have enough clearance with 35s to never cause an issue

FINALLY ready to start building this up but can't decide to go flat bars or drops. Any opinions?
It'll see more tarmac than mud.
-
• #42
Wide drops, I personally don't like any flare but that seems to be popular
-
• #43
Flipped north road bars, if your looking for the best of both worlds.
-
• #44
SSCX with flat bars is the most fun you will have.

Just finished fitting flats and I'm thinking the same.
Both wrong, the best cantis are the Avid Shorty Ultimates.
