  • Thanks, I see. I suspected it might be something like that. I still think that's a rubbish trend, I'm afraid.

  • I find all those names boring, and I don't like the reference to death. It seems to be meant as an 'ironic' take on indulgence.

  • I knew that was coming. :)

  • I know I'm always suggesting vegan forum outings that nobody's interested in, but would anyone like to go to that sometime?

Yes. Also, anything calling itself 'death by whatever' in this day and age is being pretty hackneyed and lacking in any sort of creativity - you would hope this did not extend to their cooking.

  • Great. Are we going to manage it before Christmas?

  • Kenny Deketele, 50% of the duo that won the 6 days of Ghent last night also made the switch recently after watching. The other 50%, Robbe Ghys was already vegetarian/vegan (unsure from what I read/heard) since he was a kid.

  • Is Halo Burger the one in Pop? Shame it's disappointing! I'm not in London that often but my brother lives just round the corner from there.

  • Let's try - float a date - Tue/Weds are usually better for me. Could try to make it a Vegan thread/Easts Xmas eats and drinks...

  • Sounds like a plan. How about Tuesday the 3rd or Wednesday the 4th December?

  • Thanks for the Dam recommendations. didn’t get to go to any vegan specific eateries in the end - ran out of time to go on my own and no one I was with was that keen.

Would have been nice to go holidaying with at least 1 other vegan :)

Cycled back to London on Sunday. Did the whole trip wearing a pair of Wills vegan shoes- super comfy!

  • and @Oliver Schick
    Location and time?
As long as it isn't 6pm early,
I should be able to re-visit Easts,
    but only on the Tuesday.

  • Looking for some more advice please... Somewhere in south east london (preferably) that will cater for omnivores and vegans alike. Needs to be able to host a group of about 12.

They’re all meat eaters except for me. So far the leading candidates are Babbette- went last year thought the food was nice. And Coal rooms. Both in Peckham. The latter looks absolutely grim to me... apparently they have a new chef that is happy to cater to vegans... I’ll go so I don’t miss the gathering but not that keen tbh!

  • Went to Nandine in Camberwell the other week and it was great (also for a mixed group). They might struggle to fit in a group of twelve though!

  • and @Oliver Schick - Tues works for me, flexible on time.

  • Am aware we talked about self made energy bar things a couple of times in here;
I'm going on a trip for three days where where will be not much / regular cooking possibilities so I'd like to bring prepared things with me that keep for 2-3 days without needing to be refridgerated.
I'm not on a bike all the time so it doesn't have to be the usual high energy / protein / etc. kind of bars, but more like general food (not just sweet stuff but also savoury).
It should be backpack-friendly (so bonus points if not making a mess, ideally not needing cutlery, etc.)

    Thanks for any suggstions!

  • and @mespilus - why don't we just say Tuesday the 3rd, then? We may not need to go somewhere else after pizza, as they seem to have it as pizza and drinking place, but if anyone has a particular pub request, let us know. I like the Camel close by.

  • Who wants to join me in petitioning Lindt to make a vegan version of the Les Grandes Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Bar?

    https://www.lindt.co.uk/shop/milk-chocolate-hazelnut-bar-150g

    It’s my non-vegan achilles heel.

  • Yeah it is. It's just not amazing. £9.50 for a burger gone in 3 bites. My wife is tiny and doesn't eat massive portions, afterwards she said she felt like she hadn't eaten enough.

  • Excellent I do think I am free that day

  • Having now tried all the flavours, just wanted to flag up Outdoor Provisions as an excellent source of bike- and desk-based snacking material. Compostable wrappers, all vegan, all delicious, and the new flavours (bara brith, parkin) are not overly sweet in a good way.

  • Have you tried the Vego bars? Milky choc with whole hazelnuts. Also M&S sometimes have a dark choc with whole hazelnuts in, which is also delish.

If anyone comes across vegan choc equiv of a fruit and nut bar, with whole fruit/nuts lemme know! Sick of the little shards options. Want a chunky boi!
