• As per title. I'm after a 7-speed Hyperglide freehub body compatible with a Shimano FH-1055 as per here:
    http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=7fc3b1a3-088a-44f2-b184-63c1c3946964&Enum=110

I think (by no means certain) that a freehub body off a similar-era 7-speed freehub would be compatible. The one on a Shimano 600 FH-6401 definitely looks similar in terms of dust cap assembly etc.

Failing that, an entire FH-1055 or FH-6401 hub in as close to new condition as possible...

    Thanks!

  • The freehub shown in the Velobase link is the one with both locknut threadings so it can take either Hyperglide cassettes or the earlier Uniglide ones. Is it specifically that one you want? If you just need the Hyperglide fitment and don’t need Uniglide cassette compatibility, the best thing to do is get a 7-speed Shimano hub for £10-£12 from one of the eBay shops and take the freehub off. They all have the 10mm Allen fixing inside and are interchangeable. Something like this if you want actual Shimano:

  • Having spent an hour the other day swapping freehub bodies between 3 different 7 speed Shimano hubs I can assure you that whilst they feel like they might all be interchangeable, they ain't.

  • Well that’s unfortunate. Can you tell us what hubs they were and why they didn’t fit each other? It’ll be helpful information for the ongoing Uniglide - Hyperglide freehub upgrade route now the older hubs are getting harder to find.

  • Sure, Shimano Deore DX, Shimano 6401, Shimano 700CX.

Oh, I actually tried an M732 freehub body too. I appreciate some of those are road, some MTB, but my understanding was they all worked too!

  • What was different about them?

  • Is this what you looking for .it looks like what i had on my old bike .

  • Without having any other hubs/bodies to try, this is also the impression I get from internetting.

Although as mentioned, I think the freehub off a Shimano 600 FH-6401 would fit the FH-1055. I suspect the only differences are the number of pawls (three on the 600, two on the 1055), and the colour.

  • Nothing to do with Uniglide/Hyperglide; I’m looking to overhaul a NOS rear wheel with a FH-1055 hub; the wheel bearings are perfect but the freehub sounds dry/crunchy so the bearing races may have been ruined.

I’m planning on just replacing the freehub body with another one then attempting to strip and replace bearings in the original body.
