Possibly overkill but I love my Baratza Sette. Basically zero ground retention, one of the main factors that kept me using hand-grinders for so many years.

Yep. The door actually broke within a week of use so it’s held together with tape and is the messiest thing in our kitchen (and we have a 2 yr old).
Scale sounds great. Seems spendy but def interested.

To all of you who find Wilfa messy or are struggling with static in general:

Spend some time looking at the EK43 S and then decide to only spend £300.

Anyone have a UK source for Handpresso stuff or know where I can get these nifty tamper/fillers cheaper than paying £12 postage from Taiwan?

Is Hario's business model for the V60 series basically like with inkjet printers, where you get the actual printer cheap-ish, but have to pay €€€ for the fucking catridges in the long run?
Why do their paper filter cost like ten times as much compared to regular ones?? -
• #16484
I swopped back from non Hario to Hario ones earlier in the year and they are much better quality. I guess that is represented in the price!

They're really not much, like a fiver for 100.

The basic ones are fine - I normally get ours from whittards for £5 a pack. Confusingly, there are three different types of filter made in different factories around the world to supply different markets.
I bought some fancy japanese ones for when I'm brewing the coffee (the v60 is mainly used by my misses during the day and she's still no patience for brewing properly - throw some coffee in, throw some water on top is her method).
The boxed Japanese filters (left hand side in the pic below) do make a nicer cup as the draw down is significantly quicker. the ones you get in the UK are on the right. Again, you can thank James Hoffman for the ridiculous levels of detail:

Anyone used or got one of the Sage Grinders? They are at £140 at the moment and my Gaggia one is getting a little long in the tooth.
-
• #16491
Yep. Little to fault about it at that price.

So it seems, all the reviews are good.
Arrives tomorrow.

I finally got an electric grinder (OXO electric grinder that’s not available outside of the US) after using a hand grinder for three years, as I’m finally going to get a manual pull espresso machine and I’m obviously not going to try and hand grind for espresso.
Best. Decision. Ever. Making coffee no longer takes ten minutes!

My missus has totally gone off espresso and just drinks aeropress as she prefers the lighter flavour. Any tips on making long black type drinks that taste more like filter/aeropress?

..filter/aeropress?

Speaking of filter, I have just bought one of these mugs
..gotta say they're the nicest mugs to drink a large amount of filter coffee out of!
Love the way they look, and how they feel when in hour hands, it's hard to describe.
They're pricey, but you can get 3 for 2 at the moment at their official site -

With Americano, don’t pull the whole volume of the drink through the espresso puck. It tastes a lot cleaner if you pull an espresso onto hot water you boiled in the kettle.
It’ll never be as clear as a filter coffee. Espresso will always have more solids in it than something that has gone through a paper filter. That said, I have seen someone pulling low pressure shots through a paper filter in the bottom of the portafilter. Cut some Aeropress filters up and have some fun!

Is this common?

I thought an American was just a espresso shot topped up with hot water?
Thanks!
