  • Its a shame I didnt in the first place!

I took it to the local store on the basis it would be the easiest thing - turns out closest isnt always the best option!

  • And thanks to @lynx for his kindness in offering the alternative seat post previously. It was much appreciated.

  • It should be so easy!

    Nice time!

  • Yup. My bottom bracket axle snapped a couple of months before the recall notice came out. I’d owned the bike less than a year, when I spoke with them they couldn’t have cared less.

Which is the exact opposite what happened to me on a previous Brompton when I snapped a crank arm. I worked round the corner from their old factory near Brentford so after speaking to them on the phone I wheeled it round. Picked the bike up the next day and it had had a full service including a new drive chain plus the pivot bush replaced. I actually turned down their offer of a bag and carrier, regretted that.

  • ^ the crank issue is probably on about page 3 or this thread in fact!!

  • The times I've seen Will B-A speak, I've always got the impression he genuinely cares about the customer experience - I think he's aware that they're charging a premium price over the cost of the Brompton parts, so they need to deliver a premium experience. Clearly this doesn't always filter through to the rest of the company...

When I mentioned my sticky shifters to the dealer I bought my Brompton from, he just said 'yeah, it's a known issue - let me order the parts in and we'll give you a call when they arrive'.

  • Ok, that's back to frickin' awesome - I'd not clocked those were twin bracing stays on the other photo.

  • I'd agree with what you say about Will Butler Adams.
His sometimes sweary delivery seems to reflect his genuine desire to meet customers expectations.

  • Final checks on this alfine disc Brompton!

  • Done!

Also. Fuck Evans. Just fixed a bike they assessed as written off... £275 including my labour and assessment cost. Idiots.

  • Brompton gate continues. I received a call from an awfully nice chap who said he was the owner of the bike shop in Walthamstow that has been giving me agro.

He sounded genuinely apologetic and said I'm really sorry you have had all this hassle. He said he's sorted the seat post, and given the bike a clean and a full service to try and make up for the hassle.

TBF whilst I would have preferred just to have been in and out with the seat post I respect him for having the courtesy to call me and to make this gesture. He sounded absolutely sincere in his apology so I have to say I give him a great deal of credit for this and the free service was a pretty decent gesture too.

  • Makes me wonder whether this is the result of Brompton HQ having had a quiet word with your local dealer (of the 'get your shit together if you want to retain your franchise' kind).
Either way, it looks like you are in for a win.

  • At last, now you can get on with using the thing!!

Glad to hear it’s resolved dude.

  • Just heard what the preconditions are to be able to sell an e-Brompton, fuck a duck!

  • At least spill the beans...

Customer got bored of the 2 speed clogging up in winter, srf5 hub failed so I told her to ride our Rohloff Demo just to understand / tick or cross the box.

Turns out she’s enjoying it so far...

  • I'm guessing £lots in sales a year and extra staff training?

  • You sir for one should know, kinda surprised that you don't, give them a ring and say you have someone looking for an e-Brompton...

  • We have electrics... I was requesting for the benefit of the forum users not me!

  • Buy 1 Demo bike + 2 stock PLUS commit to sell at least 10 a year... FML... How are independent bike shops gonna survive?

  • We have a demo, a courtesy bike, 6 stock bikes and, haven’t sold 10 in a year.

Done plenty of non electrics though etc

  • Ordering black edition bikes 6 months in advance, before the previous batch has arrived.... yeah small shops have no chance.

  • Yeah, it’s why we gave up on them. We don’t have the space to display 10 bikes plus the money tied up was too much. Sad, coz we could sell loads.

Also @Rhobbs, I mailed and pm’d you (or at least I hope I did) about a couple of issues - did you get either? Ta!

  • Its always difficult, we only sell Bromptons in terms of bikes (thorn cover a separate part of the business) so have 50 bikes in the shop, 88 bikes on order. We are lucky to have the set up, I have worked for smaller dealers and its such a push to try hold the bikes in stock.

    • Nothing I can see?
  • Demand (for electric) seems to have slowed right down now as well (not sure if a different story in London) I think any shop committing to 10 units a year is taking a risk.

Especially with Brompton pushing click and collect so aggressively, 2 day delivery on C&C bikes vs months on dealer orders.

  • We to date have sold no bikes via click and collect, and I hope we do not frankly!

We also only sell around 2-4 bikes a year via ordering them, we have enough bikes in store; every option ready to go.
