  • Weird celeb endorsements, some attempts to highlight plastic in the ocean and reduce their packaging but then holding launches in China and flying journalists out from Europe and the US, that really high end Zenith-y watch they’ve done that looks and is priced like a different brand, etc

  • I have a feeling that the next Alkin is going to sell like like crack on the darknet (very well).

  • That Vulcain is ace.

  • yep, i'm keeping an eye on it. I'm a sucker for an internal bezel.

  • Must admit to being keen too, encourage my laziness, when are they available?

  • Yup. Do want, ever since sneak peak

  • I have no idea I'm afraid. Probably quite a wait if protoypes are only being posted now.

The thing I like about Alkin is that they are making a real effort to be different and interesting. Not just another catalogue case/hands/dial/movement.

Can anybody with better eyesight than me spot whether that white dial prototype has a sandwich dial?

  • Outside my price bracket right now sadly. Saving for something like this

Unsure on size probably the bigger one. Tried both at Gatwick today.

  • I’ll give you tree fiddy.

Looks like a nice example. £8000-£9000 at the moment depending on box/papers & how polished the case is? I expect they want £10k though.

  • It belongs to a friend of mine, he got it out of his safe to photograph for me. Never been polished, 1995 model year.

  • Genuinely unpolished and original, then you’re maybe looking at 9.5-10k, especially for a full set.

You see them listed for more than that but I’m not sure people actually pay 10.5-12k for these unless they’re slightly rarer versions (Swiss only dial, original “fat lady” II, etc).

The market might have softened a little bit recently. My Rolex buddy in the office reckons an oyster Batman can be had for £10k at the moment.

  • I find it very sad that these things live in safes, I know they've become commodities now but it bugs the fuck out of me... Like when vintage guitars started disappearing into vaults in Japan... Ugh...

  • It’s weird that GMTs have gone that way specifically, I almost never see one being worn, whereas in London I see plenty of Subs, Daytonas, gold day-dates etc.

Maybe they’re just being bought as investments now rather than because people actually want to wear them.
