I used to work with Ronan. Lovely bloke, couldn't recommend him enough.

New wheels and a new 12mm fork, still loving it...

A Chinese fork?
-
• #205
Yeah Carbonda one

• #206
The CF505 or the Cf606? Can’t immediately spot a difference between the two, though. And how much did you pay, if you don’t mind me asking?
-
• #207
CFO505
Including delivery, customs etc it was £130.

• #209
Side cage mounts would do it for me

They do make a compelling argument...
@Saffronspokes Ah well then I'll go for the Carbonda as well.
My dental insurance covers up to €10.000 in case of an accident, so I should be fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience. 2 years later, are you still happy with your bike at Waltly? (I'm seriously thinking about getting my own gravel from Waltly and i'm therefore interested in feedbacks) Thanks. Mika

• #213
Yeah still really happy with it. It's the bike I put the most miles on each year. As previously mentioned in the thread only other thing I'd have changed was to have it di2 compatible...

Thanks for your reply. It confirms my thought. Thanks. :-) Now the tough part starts: Do the specs on my side and discussing them with Waltly. Any advice?
-
• #215
Actually: one additional question: Your seatpost is in Titanium too. Any benefits vs. a Carbon one?
-
• #216
Make sure you're 100% clear what you want before you contact Waltly. Everything from BB standard to Cable routing to bottle cage mounts to the Groupset and gearing you're planning on using. Giving them a really clear and comprehensive list of requirements in your first email will help cut down the back and forth. They're very good on detail though and will point out things you might have missed!
Re the seat post it was an aesthetic preference to get titanium over Carbon, not sure what the performance differences are...

Thanks. Really helpful advice. All the best!

Thanks Saffronspokes. Do you remember the custom fee you paid when your bike was shipped to you, in addition to the shipping cost? Mika
-
• #219
I can't remember exactly but I think customs were £112 ish and postage about 80 USD...

Once again proving its versatility, this time in 650b mode for some gravel.
I've had it in summer mode (mudguards off) for the last few weeks with 700c wheels and it's been a blast to ride, only a fraction slower than my old Canyon.

Looks super nice!
What are those disc rotors?
-
• #222
Thanks
They're the cheapest rotors I could find. Some Deore ones from Bike24.

In temporary gravel mode again. Guards off, tyres changed and onto the rough stuff.

Looks great. With an extra wheelset this must be close to a one-bike quiver (sorry)

Yeah it's pretty capable in all guises.
I had a bike fit and frame design by Form in Wandsworth. It was incredibly reasonably priced and Ronan the guy who runs it is such a nice guy. I then sent that across to Waltly with a number of requests i.e tyre clearances, guard mounts, axle standards, cable preference, bb standard etc. We went back and forth for a couple of weeks until I was happy with their final drawing.
The contact at Waltly I dealt with was called Amy and she was excellent, super responsive and very good eye for detail.
