If you're gonna go Alu, Go for the shark, mainly because it looks rad.
Although for commuting steel is probably the best shout, it's hardly going to weigh anymore and it'll be a billion times more comfy to ride. Also, the sparkly paint on the steel one is awesome

Thanks for the reply, man. Also beginning to veer towards the steel, if only for the commuting aspect. Would love to hear from someone who rides one of the alu models. They are a little more commute friendly, actually, as they have rear break options, while steel doesn't - just the fixie break (!)

No knowledge here but I’d be tempted by the steel though concur the shark offers the biggest portion of rad.
Not sure this is still valid but just in case...

(Edit sorry -looks like that offer isn’t quite as good as it previously was)

Thanks for the link! Rad vs marginal comfort gains... this dilemma feels like deja vu )

Get the rad one, ride faster and therefore be uncomfortable for less time. Basic science.

I have had a Cinelli Mash Parallax (alu) and now own the steel Vigorelli, both used for track racing.
Here are some points based on my experience
- Steel Vig paint work is incredible, people ask whether its custom. It's really that great. The sparkles are all difference colours and on the black finish with the silver logos it does look like a mobile disco of radness
- Steel Vig forks are 45mm rake which means no horrendous toe overlap so better for everyday application
- Steel Vig has longer wheel base so less skipping when sprinting (in my experience)
- Get the steel one
Steel is just so much more rad in all cases. It looks the business, has better geo (in my experience), its plenty stiff enough for racing (it uses Columbus Thron which is hefty stuff). Its a bit heavier, but who cares? Its much much more rad

Dude thanks for the detailed feedback. I think for my needs, steel is probably the best option. Really glad to hear from someone who has ridden both alu and steel models!

Here's mine, not a great pic, but you can see the sparkles. I built it with a silver finishing kit for additional shiney.
NOTE: No brake as its for racing only, don't @ me for brake chat :)

That's absolutely gorgeous - loving the silver finishing as well! Thanks for sharing

This is genuinely difficult. I feel like steel is the sensible option, but there's something so tempting about that alu shark. As hard as this decision is, I ultimately feel confident I'll be happy either way - so long as I actually pull a trigger at the end....
The white non shark alu also looks pretty badass in its own right, I have to say. Slightly more conventional geo, compared with the shark, not that that's better or worse tbf

It's not a Vigorelli, but I've never found my aluminium Cinelli MASH Bolt uncomfortable when I've used it commuting (about five miles each way).

Thanks for that - the MASH Bolt looks sweet, i'd expect it would ride not too dissimilar on a comfort level.

I've never seen integrated mudguards on a track bike before. Practical for commuting certainly

the Shark's aero seatpost will make it awkward to attach a light to for commuting.

hadn't even thought of that one, thanks

what is this!

Light mount that comes with some moon lights I think. works well on aero seatposts

• #23
Nice, thanks for this.

I’ve got spare ones of those. Plus they do a saddle mount

Oh, and the sharks aero seatpost will cut 20% off your commute time
Hi everyone, I've decided to get a Cinelli Vigorelli (why, is a separate discussion!) but I am stumbling a bit with the various models. I initially had my sights set on the Steel version, which seemed straightforward. But after deliberating a bit, I'm also now torn between the Alu Pista version (seems only avail in white these days) and the red Aluminium "Shark"model.
To be fair, I can't quite figure out what really differentiates the two alu versions, apart some small cosmetic differences. Any advice between the two - or three - models? No matter what my intentions, I think I'll probably end up using the bike most on my daily commute - a straightforward 8 mile trip on flat terrain. Any feedback would be really helpful, as I've been sitting on this too long and want to get riding (!) Thanks!!
