My daily hack, in townbike mode. A Club Tour, 531st, old style with too small clearances and quill. 3x8 for long life.

And (crosspost from Monstour thread) that eXp I was banging on about^up there. Since chopped steerer, put some red&green rings on and improved the mudguards spacing and stiffness with second stays on the GBs. Loving it. Oldbike w/ discs added... think this is a KS, sealed TT & DT, tapered main triangle, painted over stainless badge, curved pump bracketything.

Did you winston to add the tab to the forks?
-
• #59
Nope, it’s a new Thorn fork, he just added brace & tab on the frame, as well as removing a pump peg down the back end where the brace is, and redirecting the pump bracket pointing down the ST.
Oh, and new guides for brake hoses.
Winstan’s so good (and too cheap).

If you look over on YACF there was someone that had a rohloff hub (or two) fail at the hub. Think it was wowbagger?

What is the fork?
@user91463 how much would a fork for a On One inbred 26inch be?
-
• #62
It’s the Nomad disc model.

SJS cycles - that's St John Street Cycles right? Was the original store in Bridgwater? That's where my dad bought my first mountain bike from if so, probably around 1992. Memories.
Although my very first bike was a 16" pink and yellow BMX with white tyres and a disk wheel complete with a picture of 'Rad Rat' in a leather jacket violently swinging a cat around his head.

Saw a lovely stealth Nomad this morning, owner seemed faintly peturbed that I knew what it was even though he’d had it built without stickers ... but happy I was giving it props.

I'm considering a Mercury as a flat bar bike to replace my (mildly crashed) Surly which I've decided not to ride anymore.
If I go this route, I think i'll be opting for front v brake, rear disc. Any merit in looking at hydraulic disc for rear?
-
• #72
No. The majority of the braking will be done by the front brake, if yo doin it right.
-
• #73
yes, so v brake front / disc rear is kind of irrational other than it avoids requiring an ugly, heavy fork.
-
• #74
it avoids requiring an ugly, heavy fork.
Kona P2
Surly Straggler etc
Something carbon.Plenty of relatively elegant options without an On-One scaffold 5-piece.

As Emyr has pointed out, depends on the fork. Having better brakes on the rear compared to the front makes no sense though, unless you have a burning desire to be King of the Whip Skids.
