Careful with the high res monitors, at my previous workplace I got a 4k display (32" benq, not recommended) but turns out my Macbook was too outdated to drive it smoothly. So a new Macbook had to be ordered next week.

Just had that issue with MacBook Pro's and the LG UltraFine 4K Display from the Apple online store. It appears that brand new MacBook Pro's don't seem to output at 4K which was a bit of a shame.

The latest MacBook Pro can definitely use an LG Ultrafine 4K display. They have Thunderbolt 3 and support up to two 5K displays.
