You surely are not crediting Snowden with exposing the Five Eyes consortium that everyone has known about dince the 1950s?
-
• #553
Facts are so boring. Tinfoil hat conspiracy theories are much more interesting.

• #554
Jeez.

sh'ocked

If you take a series of pictures of the moon during a lunar eclipse...
-
• #557
You see a nice flat circle?
-
• #558
How does that mesh with their dozy explanation for there is always sun over some part of the earth, I wonder? Not sure I want to go find out.
-
• #559
Yeah I don’t really get what they think that proves.
But then that’s true of most FE ‘proof’
-
• #560
Obviously another sun underneath, which we can't see because the Earth is in the way...
-
• #561
Ah, no, this is being touted around as anti-FE, on the basis that this shows a round silhouette of the Earth and always does. But I just checked and Flat Earthers seem to believe that there's a mysterious "shadow object" floating around out there and sometimes getting between the sun and the moon. https://www.space.com/43086-flat-earthers-explain-lunar-eclipses.html

I don't know the source of that image but gut feeling is that it's wrong, and no spiraling is going on. Someone's just composited them in to a circle for some odd reason. Also the contrast is way higher, cameras can't easily capture the light and dark bits at the same time, which already implies severe photoshopping.
I think what you get is more like this, a straight line:
I don't really think any of this proves or disproves anything else

• #563
So the moon might not be flat after all? Sad face :(
-
• #564
And Current thinking is it’s not made of cheese :-/

Like Britain and the United States, Brazil is seeing a revival of flat Earth theory: 7% of the population – 11 million Brazilians – believe that the Earth is flat, according to the polling firm Datafolha. The poll noted believers were more likely to be religious or poorly educated.
That's extraordinary & scary.
-
• #567
Well, maybe the Earth is flat in Brazil. How would we know, since we live so far away?
-
• #568
That's a fair point. I'm quite liking the idea that only certain countries are flat, need a fun name for this theory.
On that note, I guess people from Norfolk might be more (or rather less) inclined to take the same viewpoint.
-
• #569
Sounds like you're off on a tangent to me...
-
• #570
It's all a bit of a slippery slope.
-
• #571
It's all going down hill.
-
• #572
didn't take long to descend into puns, did it?
-
• #573
Some of them did fall a bit flat though.
-
• #574
This shit is all so two dimensional.

"The Earth is flat", discus.
