Iirc the difference between the DH mech and the ‘normal’ one was in the b knuckle.

Yeah, I’m a bit unsure myself now I’ve looked it up a bit. Current bike has a 3x9 and want to upgrade to 1x10 and not sure that the Zee would handle a decent-sized sprocket.

Hmm. The Madison site says the standard mech takes up to a 28 and the longer one up to a 36.

My understanding was that Shimano quote those numbers covering their back for the massive range of potential installations (rear suspension, no or rings up front etc) real world anecdotally it will be fine on a 1x up to 42 on the rear. Correct Chain length is important in setup.
I’ll summon @platypus to go definitive for you tho. -
