  • Me Julie has stated (via repeated use of the word "awful") that she doesn't think the BBS LM's are attractive wheels, nor will they look good on the 911.

  • Good shout, I hadn’t considered ‘cross overs’, but got a Qashqai for a rental on holiday and was perfectly happy with it. I think I’d mentally filed them away as further evidence of turning into everything I used to hate but given I’m already well down that road I might as well carry on!

  • She's obviously wrong but if the colour is adding to the dislike, you could always sell her on the idea of darker centres?

  • I wouldn't say LMs are ugly wheels but they're no RSs either...

996 is a funny car too, she may not be wrong....

Edit: following extensive Google image searching I think @ricky2slicky may be on to something, the gold centres look well on navy/ black cars but silver/ grey look better on every other colour.

  • Monday morning bread pick up just now and as came out saw this bread van pull up. Amazing condition and very surprising

  • Anyone going to the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run this Sunday?

  • the amount of baby shit you need drops massively as they get bigger. i went through all the "i need a fucking massive transit van for all this shit..." stage, but stuck with the golf and got by. we do several trips to the in-laws in wilts and were packed to the gunwhales to start with, but now he's two it's a bag each for the weekend and his bike. we'd get a travel cot in now, or enough for a week away, easy.

    tl;dr - don't get hung up on needing a lorry - you'll be fine after 9 months

  • Yeah I remember the first trip with the Volvo all loaded up thinking it might not be big enough, but then did the same 'weeken at the in-laws' a hundred times in a 3 door RAV4!

  • Now we're out of the car seat stage, onto a booster seat and I just want a car with a bench seat in the front so I can cruise down the motorway with my arm round everyone.

  • She's obviously wrong but if the colour is adding to the dislike, you could always sell her on the idea of darker centres?

LM's aren't LM's without the pale gold, in my view.

  • Man. That would be amaze.

  • LMs are a bit too motorsport specific for an otherwise aesthetically stock car for me personally.

  • The E88’s are full motorsport rims, the LM’s are designed for road use- it’s why they’re a lot heavier.

We shall see what they look like, I like the look of an otherwise OEM car slammed on nice wheels.

  • I'm getting fed up of looking for a suitable car now.

As a petrol head, looking for a single car with a priority for dog space in the rear, reliability, and low running costs is genuinely painful.

I mentioned previously that we're planning to move home next year, so if we own a car here for 6 months it'll be import tax exempt, which is great. What i haven't mentioned is how shit motor tax is in Ireland. Cars registered pre-08 are taxed based on engine size. Anything >3 litres is €1800 a year. Post 08, its based on emissions. Most fun cars are >225g/km, which is €2350 in Ireland. I've gotten too tight to go back to paying €1800 a year like i did when i was young and dumb and driving an m3.

I'm now totally torn between a <2 litre pre 08 car, or super efficient post 08 econobox.

  • This morning I'm mostly admiring this: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1167676

But I'm not sure how I'd carry bikes as there are no mounting points for a roof rack, and not sure if it could have a tow bar fitted...

EDIT: I'm aware it's not a typical petrol heads car, but it's quirky and satisfies my love of renaults...

  • Gull wing Tesla. Smoke everyone at the lights and pay fuck all motor tax

  • Is it going to be slammed?

Personally I'd be going for e88's as I love them but realise they might not be practical, within budget etc. Have you looked at the new fifteen52 holeshot rsr?

  • I love this period of Renault and thought the Avantime and Vel Satis as really special, interesting examples of what the French were good at alongside making great hot hatches. My (totally unfounded I should add) worry would be parts availability for them being that they didn't sell many in the UK.

  • I love mini vans and just spotted this little beauty.

    GT3 ride height.

  • Lol, i should state that my budget is 5k, not 50k...

  • Avantime is based on an espace, so I'm led to believe parts are plentiful

  • lovely! my ma used to cart us around in a white mini estate. i would love to renovate one.
