  • Always curious, what's the deal with these renders?

Do you make them for computer games or just for fun?

  • Just for fun innit. Sideline of working in computer graphics. Being a corporate whore. One day etc. 😎

  • corporate whore

    sounds sexy.

    pics?

  • Is interesting tho. People have followers because they own nice cars. 😎

  • Sorry to hear (about the Fozzy).
Before I got a Legacy myself I always thought a Forrester was a great option (strong, spacious, understated, etc.).
A Legacy wagon is another great option, imo. Only issue is they're all getting on a bit now. But there are some bargains out there to be had.
Have you outgrown your Clio or something happened to it?

  • Loved the clio but we put 6000 miles on it in 3 years, so sold it in February and cleared the finance.

9 months later and we've been presented with an opportunity to move home to Ireland, so wanted to pick up a car here 6 months before we move home to avail of import duty exemption.

  • Also the satin paint on the clio was a real pain in the ass, hand wash only. If it was gloss i might have kept it

  • I didn't know that was a thing on mass produced factory paintwork. More of of a precautionary warning than real risk of damage? What was the colour?

  • It was satin white. It might have been fine to power wash but i didn't want to be the one to find out. The bigger problem is that you can't get a paint restoration like a standard gloss

  • I see. I don't drive much myself. Maybe every other weekend only the car gets used. And Zero midweek miles.
UK is definitely #1 place for used cars, imo. Good luck hunting your next ride.

Chap who picked up some wheels off me this morning bought a 2004 Twinscroll with 40k miles for just £500 at auction (in Japan)! Sure he spent money on importing it and fixing couple of things. Still a bargain in my eyes.

  • To be honest i might give up on trying to get something fun at this stage.

So far I've suggested the following to the wife:
    Mazda 3 mps
    Mk2 Focus st3
    Hawkeye impreza wrx wagon

All of these were a no because they look like boy racer cars.

If i ditch the need for a manual gearbox it opens up much more potential contenders. And to be honest an auto probably suits my use case more right now (long motorway blasts a few times a year, loaded with bikes, luggage and greyhound).

  • Agricultural yes, but also funny when an auto kicks down and the car next to you goes backwards fast.

  • The wife wants nothing more than a volvo xc70 or xc90, and a 5cyl petrol turbo would satisfy the petrol head in me to some extent.

Bought a new car today and it's an auto, never had one before but I thought exactly the same. After driving it for a few hours already glad I went this route for schlepping around.

  • What kind of auto?

  • The 8sp ZF auto they seem to be sticking in everything these days is a thing of absolute beauty. Great gearbox.

I’ve driven variants of it in Dodge, Chevy and BMW and it’s a delight.

  • 4 speed Subaru auto.

  • It is a great box IMO.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP_transmission look at the fitment list!

@jambon Just being nosey, part of me is a fan on the semi auto boxes (manual box with hydralic or electrical change) rather than boxes with torque converters.

  • Nothing like an emergency duck into Kw*k F*t for having your trousers ripped down.

  • Gave up on the quest for a 3 series then?

  • Sounds just like me 10 months ago.
I'm now on my 2nd auto. Both are Legacies. Great cars, very capable in every aspect, and very under-rated.

@Colm89 how about the Range Rover Sport?
I think what you actually need is a Subaru estate. ;)

  • What model did you go for?

    This is mine.

  • Gave up on the quest for a 3 series then?

It turned more into a 5 series search in the end but yes, came across a good deal and couldn't say no. It does have 6 cylinders though :)

  • I went for a H6-3L Outback, I can't see your photo unfortunately :(

  • I'll try again later on the computer. Mobile uploads seem broken.

My car is also a 3l h6 but in spec b flavour.
