You think a quantum computer can hack a physical device? What, it's going to become self aware, build a robot and the robot is going to find the guy with his finger on the button and remove from them or force them to turn the keys?

Sounds like a great movie.

One of my log-ins delays the next attempt by an increasing amount every time you get something wrong (2s, 4s, 8s, 16s etc.). Unless a quantum computer is using a process that bypasses that (which it might, IANA programmer), I can't see how you'd brute force it with any speed.

I think perhaps we have different definitions of what a physical device is.

Entirely possible, and I have seen demonstrated with bit based computers on commercial firewalls. Not usually a practical attack vector, but possible.
Anyway, is there a better thread for this?

You know, a switch, a button, a physical key. The failsafe they use in launch systems to protect from a scenario where launch codes are compromised.

I know. Which reminds me - anyone seen the new Terminator?

Yeah, there are lots of options but us humans still struggle with implement normal encryption so adding another layer of complexity is well good luck banks :)
They are aware of the issue though so it's not going to come as a surprise. -

Tough to compromise '00000000'

I watched that Google vid about Sycamore yesterday, what are the applications? Pure number crunching? Faster search?

I feel like everything about Rory Stewart is some sort of solipsistic endeavour, him trying to work out with himself who he really is. The rest of us are just feebly defined tokens, like basic background characters in a video game.

It turns out they are popular Irish musicians... https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/25/irish-musicians-hare-squead-anger-minor-gangsters-rory-stewart
I respectfully disagree. But lets not derail this thread again.
