• I'm lacing a miche primato high flange front hub to an archetype rim
the hub is 24h - using a 3x pattern the spoke length is 299mm....this seems at the very extreme of usual spoke lengths...is this because i'm using 3x with a 24h rim? is there something unusual / undesirable about that? should i consider a different lacing pattern?

    Yes, yes and yes.

3-cross on a 24H build is definitely wrong, because you're lacing from the hub to the rim at a 90° offset. This would be perfect for torque transmission if the flange was infinitesimally small compared with the ERD, but it isn't. This is why the maximum number of crossings is usually given as spoke count/9
