  • There you go! If I was being super nit picky, I’d get a higher-end ssd but you’re good with that.

  • Ah it's an imac, I read it as a macbook originally. Yeah that slot is really useful, it's a pure money saver considering how much Apple charge for more RAM when buying new.

  • 2009 MacBook Pro - would like to replace the existing HD with an SSD drive to give it a speed boost.

What kinda difficulty am I looking at? Anyone done it?

  • i did this when i was in uni with 0 problems, really simple

  • Presuming I don't want to clone the existing drive, I just need the SSD and a bootable USB stick?

  • I did this with my 2009 MacBook Pro, I’ve since sold it but it gave it a new lease of life!

Really straightforward process, just make sure you have a small screwdriver set and a torx screwdriver too. Good walk through guides here - https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2009+Hard+Drive+Replacement/1337

I used Crucial’s website to make sure everything was compatible and purchased from them too. I put in an SSD and upped to 8GB RAM. https://uk.crucial.com/

  • I was about to do the same thing to my snail pace 2012 MBP but now there appears to be all sorts of rainbow shadowing around open windows. Is this likely to mean the graphics card (or equivalent) is knackered too?

  • There you go! If I was being super nit picky, I’d get a higher-end ssd but you’re good with that

Yeah given the cost of an MX500 I'd just get that. Quite a bit faster.

  • i bought an enclosure and installed on it via USB, and then switched out the internal one

  • I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro (with the touchbar and butterfly keys).

I just got off a flight where the kid next to me spilled coke on my keyboard. It was only a little splash and quickly mopped up but now my delete, power and return keys either don’t work or only partially work and the movement of the keys feel sticky.

I don’t think any of the electronics are damaged but I think the sticky coke residue has jammed the mechanism. Is there an easy way to inside and clean it up?

I have used compressed air to remove dust from the keys in the past but obviously not applicable here.

  • The torx screws that hold the underside of my 2016 MBP together are backing out again.

    Handy.

  • Can you use some kind of white spirit or similar to dissolve the coke, and then it evaporates?

  • Yes please I think. If the noise cancelling is good it seems like a good choice.

  • Preordered just to test out. If I like, will keep.

Love Apples 14 day trial return sevice with no questions ask.

  • I've ordered too - been shipped for tomorrow.

I've got the Sony in-ear noise cancelling ones already but they're garbage for phonecalls so giving these a go...

  • Fuck me these videos are so well made..

  • Tempted to do the same. I’m using the 2nd gen AirPods and think they’re great. Curious if these are £100 better though.

I do think the worst thing about wireless earbuds in general is the battery degradation. In 18 months the battery will be incapable of holding anywhere near the charge they can when new. So it sets up a strange relationship where we know that we’re paying for an almost disposable product.

One of the few times I’ve actually enjoyed a Vice article. https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/neaz3d/airpods-are-a-tragedy

EDIT - Just seen that AppleCare plus on headphones has a replacement program if they retain less than 80% of the original battery capacity. For an extra £29.

  • Just downloaded and installed Pock for the MacBook Pro touch bar. Since I never used the touch bar at all really, it's actually a useful addition.

  • I mean 250 quid on a pair of wireless earbuds is never gonna sound as good as a 250 quid pair of wired headphones. Not at the moment anyway. But, for the target audience, they look great... Ii shall be sticking with my wired earphones and Radsone ES100 Bluetooth transmitter for now, though.

  • @DragunovCZ1 @soul Be great to hear what you think once you’ve tried them out.

Particularly curious how phone calls are with the shorter stem positioning the mic further away and what the squeeze gesture is like.

  • Mine just arrived.

So far so good. They fit better than the Sony wf-1000xm3 I’ve had for the last couple of months. They’re much lighter and the case is tiny.

ANC seems good so far. I’m in the office so tough to tell if street noise will be blocked. Getting train home later so will test then.

Sound quality seems good too but too early to test. Need to give them time to warm up a bit.

Haven’t had a chance to test call quality but these will be used a lot for teams / Skype calls so I’ll know soon enough!
