@jv - ripple, crease, line? A line was definitely there from forcing my feet into them when I first got them (tight, stiff loafers). The deer bone made the line disappear. Was very happy.
Tbh, I was taking advice from my slightly OCD uncle who has owned the same three pairs of Color 8 Cordovan Alden's (jealous) for over a decade. He advised me the following:
*So … I generally use Renovateur after every 3rd wear, and use Renovateur followed by wax polish after every 5-6 wears, but it depends on how heavily creased or dirty they get. If they get wet then I go through the complete cleaning ritual once they’ve dried out.
Before using Renovateur spray a fine mist of water over the shoes and immediately buff up with the brush until they’re dry - this will remove dirt and dust from the leather. Use a clean cotton cloth and rub in a small amount of Renovateur all over each shoe; if the creases are quite heavy you can press extra cream into the creases to smooth them out. With the shoe trees in place you can press down hard against the wood and to smooth out the creases. Leave to dry for 5-10 minutes then buff with the brush to give a nice shine and finish off with the microfibre cloth.
If the creases are very heavy use the deer bone to smooth them out, again with the trees in place - there are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to do this. Again, buff up with the brush and finish off with the microfibre cloth.
Apply wax sparingly - the Renovateur will clean and condition the leather so you only need the wax to maintain the colour of the shoes, and to give a glossy shine. Apply a thin layer, leave to dry for a few minutes then buff up with the brush. The more you brush the better the shine will be. And once again, finish off with the microfibre cloth.*
