Ahem - this has been on the market for over 10 years, both trek and Mason have just bolted one on (more or less)

Of all the things you might want to carry on your bike... A football. :p
-
• #9579
You’re missing the point. Nobody is saying that Trek has invented the front rack
-
• #9580
every iteration of this idea has looked awful
-

What’s wrong with copying something that works?
Except for when there’s a copyright of course...

This argument is sounding familiar. :)

I quite like mine. :)

bike with rack confuses community of gravel cyclists
-
• #9585
Of course not, and yes the Mason is extremely similar than the Trek's, but since Trek's set-up isn't anything new itself I can't see what the big deal is.
Anyway MTB with drops >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Its just a bit lame really
-
• #9587
Yep, dynamo lights, racks, even baskets. What's the next thing to import from commuters to gravel bikes, something like those skirt guards to keep the dangly mugs away from the rear wheel?
-
• #9588
Solid tyres, they're the Next Big Thing for Gravel Cyclists.
Bells maybe. Or air horns, but not those quiet Air-Zound ones, we need really fucking loud ones powered from a Co2 canister. -

Scot yours is the only good one.

Xxx

I must be the only one who like the Mason (excluding price) especially with this rack fitted;

Well thought design as always. Do the voile straps loop all the way around the dry bag?
-
• #9593
Yes. They enter through the shell, pass all the way around between the shell and inner foam, then exit the shell, with the strap held in place by the harness mounting bolt passing through one of the holes in the voile strap.

For the record, I neither agree or disagree with this
-
• #9595
It's GCN, of course we disagree.

Comparing two non average builds... the average gravel bike isn’t full carbon with a suspension fork and electronic drive...
The average old mtb isn’t going to be titanium or xtr...
But I agree, most mtb trails are fun on less fancy bikes... but fancy bikes are fun...
How many times does that contradict?

Old MTBs: shit
Gravel bikes: also shit (mostly)
It’s a draw

Maybe it comes from being a single speeder so I’m used to always being in the wrong gear but riding the perfect bike for a given terrain just doesn’t appeal.
When I rode my pomp over trails I’ve ridden on mtbs recently it was waaay more fun because I was closer to (or further over in some cases!) the ‘edge’.
I’m building a fixed gravel frame just now and I’ve kept away from going for super size tyre clearances and I’ve kept the headtube angle pretty steep because it’ll just be tons more fun to ride.

That did look so fun.
Max 35mm on my bike and I have never wanted more because that makes it way more fun!

I ride fixed on gravel using a Langster Pro frameset and it is great for it. Unusually for a track frame the Langster Pro (2012) can fit a 30c tyre in the fork and even more on rear but I have stuck to 29c tyres which are just right for where I ride.
As demonstrated by @Samuli Trek have not really invented anything though.
