Patience, and lots of it.
I used some paint stripper, but all it did was soften the paint, so most of it came off with a brass brush, then I wet'n'dry'd it, then polished it. the polishing was a bit of a rushed job, it could do with some more time spent on it.
Took about 20 hours in all. Should have bought a Nicolai.
