  • Only my third track session last night in about three months, and I managed to complete 20 x 400 (100 recovery). Ugh! Kept them all under 80s, happy with that, but still struggling to get back to gym/run doubles and sacked off the gym this morning. Need to HTFU I think.

  • Sad you are not taking part in EfM in the end given you are the one that highlighted it to me in the first place but no point in forcing it if you know it won't achieve the objectives!

    I'm still on for it, did last big training run last weekend, 50 miles along the Thames path. Went well although messed up fueling a bit, didn't take enough Tailwind with me and ended up running the last ten miles on nothing. Lots of planning work to do in this area...

    Any one else on here entered?

  • Anyone else struggling to make interval announcements work on Runkeeper (iPhone)? Every time I try an interval run the audio cue announces the start of my first 30 second pace interval and then the app goes silent. No ping at end of the 30 and no heads up for the next one.

  • You just need to keep running longer...

  • But I’m running way through the interval at the higher speed and it’s not communicating a stop to me... I didn’t stop - the announcements did.

  • A running watch question. My forerunner 220 is on its way out - the battery life is down to one Sunday long run (about 90 minutes).

    I'd like a replacement that I can get at least 10 hours of GPS recording from. I don't care about writs heart rate monitor, contactless payment, music, triathlon functionality. I would also rather not pay more than about £250.

    Any recommendations welcome.

  • Forerunner 35 should do that

  • I can see plenty of Forerunner 220 on eBay (used) going for £50. If you liked it it's probably a cheaper replacement than something brand new.

    (Obviously a gamble if there is a problem with batteries.)

    Another option is asking Garmin how much it would be for a refurbished replacement (assuming you send you old one in). That's how I got my latest HRM-Tri belt for half price when the old one died from 3 years of (ab)use.

  • suunto ambit3 run goes from 10 hours out to 100 hours with different levels of gps accuracy. Think the ambit3 peak goes longer

  • I have a Forerunner 735xt which I'm pretty sure has lasted me 10 hours or more.

    I think I paid £230 18 months ago, and it works for cycling and swimming too.

    I went back to my 310xt the other week, I had forgotten what a pain it was syncing with a cable

    I'm very unprepared for many different reasons, frustrating but at least not injured so I can have xc league as no pressure winter races. Place finally sold & transferred today, i'm defo out. I enjoyed my other 3 attempts so can see another go happening in more settled times.

    Yeah, that is where it will all go wrong, not trained with "real" food as i find Tailwind fine for about 9 / 10 hours but know I am getting overloaded with the sweetness by then!

  • Been back to the sports foot chap, he's recommending some crabon fribé plates to go into my shoes to reduce the stress on my big toe joints. Woo, or accepted method? I have arthritis in the toe joints, although to what extent I don't know.

    I have arthritis in one toe and it's fucking annoying. I've been to the NHS foot pain clinic previously about some weird pain when I kicked a duvet off. And I'm not convinced I'd get any help here. I'm not the target audience.

    Worth trying Cashew Nuts &/or Babybel Mini (if u not veganz) just ahead of a longish (2hr) run? See how you respond? Some savoury alternatives could help you battle the sweetness.

  • I missed this before, nice one. I might wear my unofficial lfgss run club Mapei vest so easy to spot, depends on how wintery it is.

  • I ran my first marathon last weekend and I think I'd like to do another some time next year and go faster. Towards this aim, what benefits would joining a running club give me? I'm not big on the social side, but I would like to get faster. I don't really want to race XC or track as cycling is my main focus. How much training guidance can you expect from a running club, or is it more just to meet friends and run with them?

    if it makes any difference, the club I was thinking of is Highgate Harriers.

  • I used to do Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions with Highgate Harriers at Parliament Hill track. Tuesday's were either 8 x 800 m or 12 x 400m on the track, and Thursday were hill sprints. Both will make you a lot faster. I ran with the Bs - the sight of a 15 year old blazing past you is good motivation to keep the effort up. I was probably mid to back of the pack in the Bs, and that was around 2.45 seconds per 800m for 8 reps, for example. As are a lot faster - so if you need higher pace you can run with them.

    There is no need to be social. I don't think I knew a single persons name. Parenting permitting I will probably be trying to do sessions over the winter again this year for speed work, as I also want to do a marathon in Spring.

  • I didn't particularly join a club for the social side of things, and I used to happily do all my training solo, but besides bringing more structure to your training particularly with interval sessions, there's a lot to be said for having some company on long runs, especially when others are working towards the same goal as you. 20 miles on a Sunday morning can be a lot more bearable when there's a bit of chat going on, not to mention people introducing you to new routes.
