32/11 gives me 78.5 GI, or 20 mph at 90rpm which I think is probably fast enough for central London usage?
I occasionally run out of gearing with 32/11 on my Long Harry. If it’s a slight slope, I’m unladen and the wind is behind me it gets a bit spinny and I start thinking about the 34-tooth chainring in my box.
I have the SRAM PG-950 11-34 9-speed at the back of mine but I feel the Tiagra 10-speed 11-34 on my other bike has better ratios. The bigger end of the block is really for bail-out gearing if needed, but the spacing is definitely better on the 10-speed.
Would like some input on gearing...
The bullit I currently use for work has an 8 speed Shimano hub of some kind. I never use gears 1 or 8 so I am using 6 gears 36.5-80.5 gear inches.
I am building my omnium 1x10 so should I stick with the same range and get 10 speeds instead of 6? Keeping in mind my build is probably gonna end up about 4-5kg lighter than the bullit?
