Before SRAM existed, we had computer RAM so it made sense a lot of people would see S-RAM.
Capital letters like that are an acronym so it makes sense that it would be pronounced S, R, A, M or any variation anyone deemed fit to utter, since there's no rules for pronouncing acronyms, at least to my knowledge.

Hands up who pronounces Miche 'meesh'
-
• #12661
It's pronounced micheese.
-
• #12663
In my head it was a German name because they took over Fichtel & Sachs. I've always pronounced it as one word (but 'Sram' not 'Shram', because following German pronunciation that imaginary Teutonic company would be SCHRAM or SCHRAMM...)

• #12664
It's pronounced mi-KAY, like mickey with a cockney acceent.
Right?
-
• #12665
edit. Nope.

• #12666
yeah, I think. The few times I’ve had to say it out loud to someone else, I’ve just pronounced it ‘meesh’ though. Similarly, I’m fucked if I’m going to say Moog to rhyme with vogue. And ‘kraftverk’ is for people with actual German accents.

But did you know Jagwire (brake/gear cables) is a US phonetic transcription of Jaguar?

I usue say meekay, then follow on with meesh so that I can feel superior to people but they still know what I'm on about.

17 years on and the Steve Jobs keynote announcing “Mac OS Ten Jay-gwire” still generates a cringe.
this isn't going to catch on
But essram, yes. Also, that way you can sing it to the tune of S Club 7's classic party banger S Club Party as you are changing gears.
