Was nobody shouting at you to 'PICK UP THE PACE!' ?
-
• #8078
Not even Andy?

Chatting to a parent at the junior 10-mile TT champs this morning. Said the budget for his son's racing was "about ยฃ20,000 a year."

Iโve moved โupโ a category this season. Am now in the really old fellas race.
-
• #8082
Considering you rode on threadbare slick tyres you did good ๐
-
• #8083
Yeah I've read that.....madness
-
• #8084
Unfortunately not.
Andy was having a lie in this week and started much later. I can only imagine how confusing that would have been for a gentleman of his age. -
• #8085
Ah. I see he's already stated that and ruined any "Bantzzzz" I might have been trying to initiate.
-
• #8086
He was also in California all of last week so was even more confused than usual due to jet lag.
-
• #8087
He appears to have gone all pro athlete and is talking about himself.
-
• #8088
He probably has staff to handle his social media duties
-
• #8089
He just needs a pit bitch now. And a camper van.

Wow, ambitious pressures for Herne hill.
I think much of the difference between the fast guys and the rest of us is just that they can keep it smooth even with the power on and are really keyed into the feedback their bikes are giving them. That and not being at all bothered by their wheels trying to do their own thing.

Thankfully yesterday he had two people to do sighting laps for him and pass on course details.
I donโt think Iโve ever ridden a race before where Iโve not had chance to do a sighting lap. It was a novel experience.

There was a nice spread of mud out back, less worried about rubble than normal - & thinking about it, I let some more air out of the front on the sighting lap! Still slid around all race :S
-

I ran 25 psi front and rear, wouldnโt want to go much lower at HH due to the rubble. I had consistent grip all around the course too, and only one slight slip with the front wheel on that slippy section after the descent next to Big Bob where you headed back out to the outfield. (Which is where my rear mech seized on the final lap).
-
• #8094
your mech might have packed up with 2 laps to go if you'd had a warm up lap ,with hindsight I wish I hadn't bothered with a sighting lap just before the start as it just meant you started caked in mud
-

your mech might have packed up with 2 laps to go
This is very true!

If I'd listened to you, Sam, I'd have spent Saturday evening swapping out the rear mech and running it singlespeed.
Jo Burt came from way back to get into the top ten yesterday because he was on singlespeed.

You cudda been a champione
-
• #8098
Do you not have your SS CX bike any more?
Single speed seems the correct choice on a flat (as in not a Leeds Castle, Somerhill School or Ford Manor Farm) course, especially when conditions are muddy or long wet grass.
-
• #8099
I do, but itโs set up with gears now. I can switch it to singlespeed, but didnโt have time on Saturday as I was busy ferrying the kids between activities and social events all day.

I lapped NO ONE and was definitely low to mid pack fodder.
